can i really have my casings at 80%rh?
    #5142998 - 01/05/06 12:20 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

i posted of my need for a new humidistat as my current greenair model does not function at higher humidities.

i was then told that 80% was "perfect" for cased substrates. even if it is not perfect and just "completely fine" then my current model will do.

the thing is, ive never done 80%rh and always thought that 85 was the absolute lowest you could go without problems.

now, i know it is best to have a humidity of like 95% for pinning and then drop it afterwards. as i will be using a good sized, airy casing layer i think that the casing will take care of the pinning humidity if kept at the right water content. this might negate the need to have my chamber at 95%rh. assuming this works out, the drop would occur as the pins reached past the micro-climate of the casing into the less humid chamber's air. assuming 80%rh, they would then be effectively dropped to this humidity.

so, assuming the casing itself is sufficient for the pinning humidity, which i feel it will be, all that is left is the questionable use of 80%rh.

rogerrabbit was the one who informed me of the 80%rh acceptability and he is a trustable source, however i do not recall ever seeing such a claim anywhere else before or growlogs of such a situation (even from roger). so finally, is 80%rh really going to suffice? can anyone post or pm links to growlogs as i have been unable to find any that use a 80%rh?

all information/links/opinions appreciated. thanks.

RR is in a league of his own... :mushroom2:

remember everyone grows differently...if he say 80 work's I am sure that it does for him...

But there are other factors that could also be at work...

Remember you have to consider the source, he is a professional and has his tek perfected..
