I've been having some problems with my computer. I picked up a virus and have since removed it, (finally) I was running anti virus software but it did'nt seem to do anything...
Anyway I noticed my firewall settings were no longer working and I have been unable to use my firewall protection. (I have windows xp home addition) This morning I downloaded zonealarm to replace my non functioning firewall. Well after surfing the net for alittle while Somone with this ip was trying to gain access. 204.37.233.181
I looked up that ip address and it's from the DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY INSPECTOR GENERAL AGENCY!!!! No I'm not akmed, or mohammad, but I'm kinda concerned.... I looked up the information here please your thoughts on this... and hurry before I get the knock on the door PLEASE

Could've been the virus that shut your firewall down - it's hard to say. Be that as it may, windoze firewall is crap anyway. ZoneAlarm still makes a pretty good, free version of a firewall.

100% agreed the one I have now is much better I like it alot... I'm still alittle concerned because I looked up what the army general does.
Also the viruses I picked up were pretty run of the mill, picked up a real 32.exe, ss exe, and msls32.exe (the worst of the bunch)
any tutorials on proxy servers here? I'm a new to the whole online security got any suggestions for a newb?

I read that right after posting my conern this morning. I appreciate the link... Problem with that post is Idk what the hell he's talking about...
I have a general idea on what a proxy server does, and infact installed a free one not long ago... (it did'nt seem to work well because it would mask my ip address but there was like a 2nd ip address that they were still able to find that gave my general location)
Trying to set it up took me HOURS, (as idkwtf i was doing) and after all that time to find out it did'nt work WELL pissed me off... Got anything for a newb to read to make the setup of a proxy server easier...????
(I'm just comming down so don't mind me;)

do you use firefox for a browser?
if not go to www.getfirefox.com and use that browser, then download the switch proxy extension, after installed you will see it on the tool bar. click options and there will be a space half way down to enter the url of ythans list.

Whne it comes to the government a single proxy won't do much, try using tor.eff.org
Even after using that because your on windows your pretty damn venerable still so i would suggest switching to *nix.

Well that STILL cant be a good thing... I surf alot of questionable websites about ALL kind of stuff.... anyway It has yet to happen again, and my firewall is getting the job done . (so far)
It also probably helps that I"m on dial up since my connection is not ALWAYS on...

The fed is studying everyone, that's why they call it the "net".
If you really wanna live paranoia-free, look up how to do illegal drug shit on a clean, reformatted laptop using some random wifi connection around town.
Save what you want, then go print it out.

If the feds are watching you, you won't know it, until you either get a letter in the mail saying that they tapped all your shit like 4 months after the investigation is over, or they fucking bust down your door after they have enough evidence to convict your ass for a long time.
And the feds usually work on a snitch basis. They will win a huge amount of cases on just snitches, and not even any fucking hard evidence on you.
Be careful, use all random wifi spots, have at least 2-3 hardware mac addies you can rotate. Don't get fucking busted in a car with your laptop either... its a fucking give away. FIT THE FUCK IN if you are doing something.

Damn. That's pretty scary. Are you growing anything? I would get all illegal stuff out of your house for at least 6 months. See if a friend can store it for you.

If you want real live actual security, get a Mac already. Best of both worlds - ease of use, and unix security. Sheesh!

if you want to live securly stop going online, duh. stop using credit cards, stop using librarys, stop using anything in our society that gets imputed into a comupter. Do you really think that anything you can get online will stop the feds? come on man their tech is at least 3 or 4 generations past ours. Most tech advances are made through GOVERNMENT research. Do you really think the gov. puts out its BEST stuff. come on now. If you are that worried then stop using the net. That simple. peace
