Perlite is pissing me off

Ok, I just completed two casing via the sea of shrooms tek. Which uses a 5 oz plastic cup for the casing container. Now I have read its best to have a humidity level of 82-92% when working with casings. This is the part I am getting pissed off at, I put in some perlite it instantly goes to 90% and above I cant tell how high above 90 because my guage just says high after that point. So i scoop some perlite out, still a high reading. I do this until I have less then a cup of perlite left now I am sitting with like 1/4 a cup of perlite and still a god damned high reading. What the shit is my problem? The thermometer? Although I do think it is pretty accurate and worthy.

don't worry about it. the casings will be fine. it is just optimal to have it at that humidity.

Ok fucking scratch that I dont even have 1/4 a cup of perlite in there now, all I have is bits and pieces that remain in there because I dont want to get my hands dirty. I may add that I live in Houston where the humidity is quite high on its own already. BUT COMEON NOT EVEN 1/4 A FUCKING CUP!!! Seriously the casings will be allright though? And is more perlite needed as more casings are added or no?

it depends on ur terrarium, but for the most part if ur tank is filled with casings they will produce enough humidity.

where can you get something to measure humidity, and about how much do they cost?

You can get a Thermo-Hygrometer Sensor. From Radio Shack......Part # 63-1031 Was on sale for $19.99 Reads temps and humidity.

Ok back to topic at hand. Do we all agree that above 90% humidity for a casing is ok? I have heard many accounts and read a few teks that stress that too high a humidity is just plain bad for a casing, since they already have a natural humidity of their own.

why don't u believe me? I'm just trying to help you out. I'm not gonna tell you bullshit. check this out. this was written to me from anno: > How humid should it be? Casings require 95+% RH during the promordia formation and pinning stage, and app 90 during the fruiting stage, cakes require 95+ throughout the lifecycle. I asked him I i could have cakes and casings in the same terrarium and he said it would work even though casings are supposed to have less humidity

No, I believe you but I have read this from well written casing teks that casings should at max have a humidity of 92%. Like the hawks tek

didn't u say ur rh never goes past 92%? If this is the case I don't see a problem. I asked if I could have casings and cakes in the same tank and the reply was yes meaning that since cakes require 95%rh through out their life cycle the casings would be alright at these high humidity levels. What could be the problem as long as water isn't beading up on the casings? just don't mist them.

No, once my rh level goes up to 90% it reads HIGH, after that I assume it goes up at least a little more.

Like i said - youll never or rarely get perlite humidity perfect - just fan it more - im assuming your growing cubensis, so i wouldnt worry too much about the humidity

Dump the perlite out. And yes, if the humidity is higher than 90% it will still work, I even fruited cakes and casings in the same terrarium at near 100%. For casings it?s still better to have it around 90% after the pins have emerged. Read P. cubensis Growth Parameters . If you want to measure humidity exactly, go buy a cheap analog hygrometer with a calibration screw and calibrate it using the tek posted in the grow/find section.

Thanks a bunch.. I have found out that I do require a tiny bit of perlite to have my humidity up, but when I say tiny bit I mean like less then 1/4 a handfull I guess maybe my terranium doesnt let anything escape and it just eventually gets to 90% and above.
