DB lighter note

On a lighter note after hearing all the complaints about DB. AFOAF after waiting patiently for almost 3months is seeing hundreds of pins on his DB kit. When receiving his grain 2 out of the 3 were contaminated already but the one bag seemed to pull through. THe only question for you Ryche or anyone else is the pins seem to be not all growing upwards as there are a few growing sideways..and even from the bottom of the compost is this normal? he also is waiting on grain replacements hopefully they will come eventually.

The brown balls on top are the caps. They will mature and grow. soon, if all goes well, they will open their caps. Hope you enjoy your harvest.

thanks enter, ill remember to try to keep this kind of post in cultivation next time. today some of the stems have reached to the top of the kit. is it alright if somone opens the top of the kit for more room to grow or is that inviting contamination? also, when picking should one pick all of them at once in the flush or just the mature ones? thanks

That is because they are still growing. Mushrooms get very large on that DB compost and those big round balls are still developing. When they are getting close to their adult stage, they will open. Usually about 4 to 5 days after they start fruiting on the comopst (depending on your temps). Now since that compost has been sitting for 3 months, its probably lost a lot of moisture. If you live in a dry climate, be sure and tape some of the air holes at the top. I recommend about 7 out of every 10 holes. Also if your not seeing huge amounts of condensation on the side walls, once a day, (when your clean, like right out of the shower) lift the lid and mist the side walls. Be sure and use sterile or bottled water. Glad to hear it started fruiting for you after all this time. It just goes to show you should not always give up on your mushroom projects so fast. Thanks for your help Enter....I'll send your commission check out tomorrow For anyone else needed help with DB kits here, you can always PM me the link to your thread and I'll drop by and see if I can help.

Wow that took a long time. Three months. Well, at least it all seems to have worked out great for you. My first harvest from my DB kit was ready in 30 days. So, three months seems like a heck of a long time. I have heard other reports were it took that long for some people.Congratulations on your harvest.
