About 8 days ago I started the Pf tek and put my jar in my closet. I set my heater to high and it got over 90 degrees in there almost 100 degrees. I think thermal death has set in because nothing has happened in the last 7 days. Does anybody think I can still use these jars. Maybe I can resterilize them and inoculate the jars again. Does anybody think this will work or should I start over?

I did research, that's why I think I killed them. What I wanted to know is can I still use these jars or dump them and start over.

hmm, for the sake of curiousity/science I would keep 2 or 3 and just try them again, and dump the rest out and start over. that way if this happens to anyone again...you will know the answer and be able to help out others. and we can all learn from what happens if and when you post your results. peace, ar393

They might be dead.....they might not be. I have seen posts that people have been in the high 90's and the jars came back. I have also read that they die at 106 degrees. So what the f......let them go.....and see what happens. Try and keep the temps in the 84 to 86 degree range. Let us know how the jars do.....you might not see nothing for a week. You might want to start another batch of jars....just in case.

It is reported mycellium does start to die at 106 deg , foaf had her jars at temps of 103-110 while in the incubator for a week solid before she noticed. She took them out and left em at room temp they started to colonize almost 2 weeks later, you should be alright , it could take awhile though you probaly should save half and start the others over just to experiment , post the results.
