I hate to post about something stupid. But as i have come across, people dont relize the meaning behind tools music. I am not crazy tool fan, i hardly listen to them...but some people are, and i think before people post opinions on tool thinking its just meaningless lyrics i would think again. I hate to say all this but its gotta be said?

I listen to a huge variety of music and I have found the deepest meaning [by far] in Tool's music. The three most influential aspects of my life that have pushed me towards enlightenment are: 1. Psychedelics 2. Reading 3. Tool

Listen to Tool's music(especially Aenima and Lateralus) and read the lyrics.....think, open your eyes and you will find...

I was actually thinking about creating a Tool thread last night
about this exact topic.. I don't really know much about their
music.. would you consider it "divine" music ? inspiring ? mind expanding ?

Hmmm...
I just want to say that I am a HUGE Tool fan. I have all their albums (including the box set) and I've seen them live blah blah... so, what I have to say is not skewed by Tool's status with me.

You know, Tool isn't the only band with a good message (and Tool's message isn't REALLY theirs... western music with an eastern message- like Jung, the western doctor with an eastern view of things).

I really like Tool's view of American culture, but I can't really subscribe to their decidedly eastern outlook. The whole determinism thing bugs me... if I were God and I split myself up into 6 billion people, I think I would relinquish control to the individual as that is the whole point of having different perspectives. riiight

Although Tool is extremely intelligent (and I am just as big a fan as anyone here), we must avoid getting trapped like many others in thinking of Maynard as God. He is human and he is fallible. I agree with most of what Tool says, but I don't agree with their approach to certain things. Lateralus is amazing and is such a giant step from their earlier works IMO, but I still question their use of anger and frustration in describing their views. They certainly bring up a lot of good points, but I think the main guiding force in our lives should be love and and compassion, both of which seem to be absent from Tool. Maynard is just describing his own course to greater understanding and enlightenment. But it is not the only path to choose.
