Making DVD backups.
    #5118154 - 12/29/05 07:53 AM (18 years, 4 months ago)

I always make copies of my DVD's.

Lately I've been having trouble. DVDXCopy and DVDShrink are unable to make backups of several of the newer movies.

Anyone having any luck with other software?

What movies are you having trouble with? I have done a lot of research regarding DVD technology and the CSS protection system and would love to test my code on something that the default crypto programs have trouble with. Perhaps the player keys that the program's you are using have been removed from the disc... though any decent decrypter should have a list of all valid player keys to choose from. Most of the public deCSS implementations that I have looked at are... umm... not the best written code, to put it politely.

dvdxcopy should be ineffective by now considering its developed stopped probably 2 years ago when 123 Studios folded.

dvdshrink usually works well - I'm surprised, but then again, if Hollywood has boosted their protection recently, then I'm not. Are you running the latest version?

Have you tried dvddecrypter? http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/

"Stealth" is the first to pop into my head.

No. But I will now.

I have not come across a dvd dvd decrypter couldnt decrypt. Year or 2 ago i remember disney dvds having trouble with some times getting to decrypt right, but i think dvd decrypter owns up on disney stuff now too.

DVDshrink is a great all around user friendly tool to backup and shrink dvds.

The best option is DVD Rebuilder with Cinema Craft encoder (cce), but can be a paid to get set up right.

Try dvdFAB. It defeats Sony's ARcoSS and has continued support. Support for dvddecrypter has stopped.

for newer movies such as stealth you must first rip the dvd to the hard drive using dvd Fab, then open the video files using dvd shrink and burn them. THis is because they changed the structure of the dvd menu that dvd shrink looks for. This does work as i have a back up of stealth

Slysoft is the way to go. AnyDVD can decript any DVD and clonedvd is really easy to use. 30 month trial.

This is the method I've chosen. It removes the "warning" and allows the movie to be the first thing you see.

First rate suggestion. (It's only a 21 day trial though)

You know, the warning about showing, duplicating, breaking the law, yada yada that's at the beginning of each movie?

Here are AnyDVD & CloneDVD.  These are the trial versions.  Be sure not to click on the patch or you might bypass the trial and violate some law somewhere.  Enjoy
