how looney are the conspiracy theorists??...
    #5115157 - 12/28/05 12:28 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

it wasnt long ago that anyone that talked about operation echelon would have been branded a tinfoil-hat-wearing-conspiracy-nutcake...but as it turns out..the nutcakes were right (MSNBC)...and there are many other examples too.. not the least of which is bushs' policy of disappearing its political opponents ("terrorist suspects") in other countries and "rendering" them to secret (and not-so-secret) torture centers (washington post)...in 2000..to say this was the future would have only elicited fits of laughter and more "tinfoil hat" insults...so whether "they" exist or not (and haliburton is a prime candidate)..the tinfoil-hat crowd has at the very least predicted the outcome correctly...

it is also interesting to note that the far-right apolologists on this board dont even use such insults anymore..but simply dismiss their detractors as being stupid and ignorant in yet another example of neocon projectionism...

The loonies are the ignorant folks who go about their daily toil thinking all is well in the world and their all-knowing government wouldn't dare commit unspeakable acts such as ECHELON.

Only because the people talking about it were mixing it up with alien abductions and were convinced that President Ford's old football injury was somehow involved.

In all seriousness, can you point me to any threads on the site that somebody mentions echelon and gets branded with a tin helmet?

Edit: misreply, meant to be directed to the original post, not the last one. Apologies.

no, but typically the people that preach conspiracy ahead of time, know of more than just that one conspiracy.

thats why they get branded with tin helmets. could you find a single person that just thought echelon was the only conspiracy going on?

actually..one of the most looniest conspiracy theories ive heard is that theres some kind of monolithic "islamofascist" empire that will conquer "from the tip of spain to indonesia" and only bush can save us...UFOs and aliens almost makes sense in comparison.. yet (and not surprisingly)..90% of the US population continue to believe bush...

no..i dont believe that there is such a thing...the land grabbers are all in the US..and their simply projecting their own evils on an imaginary enemy..occasionally enlisting a few madmen like mohammed atta to make it look real...

EDIT ..prolly the most obvious example of such projection is bushs' "they hate our freedom" mantra...

Call it Looney, or whatever you want. But if you want to believe that the Muslim world is some undivided monolithic force coming to rape your daughters and steal your cattle, YOUR the one out of your mind.

The Muslim community is united in VERY little. They arent one group, they are very divided and most groups are openly hostile, often to the point of bloodshed, to other groups. Look at the living conditions in most Muslim countries. Whether the United States is partially at fault for these conditions, (I would say yes, you would say no fucking way), the fact remains that most of the Muslim world is third-world and detiorating. This is what you people are afraid of? A Muslim scourge coming down from Alaska in what? A 1955 Soviet Lada?

Osama may sit over there in <Insert Name Here>'ostan talking hellfire and brimstone. Hell, he may even get ahold of a fucking nuke someday. (Probably from Russia, but lets just pretend that scenario doesnt exist and concentrate on those Iraqi WMD's) None of this will lead to the end of our way of life. If you honestly think a Muslim invading army is going to show up in Kansas tomorrow, your fucking Looney.

Right or Left.

The looniest thing I've heard, is that the US is the only evil group on the planet, and everyone else is just dandy.

Of course there's plenty of greed and nastiness in the US government... but same with many of the Islamic governments and all kinds of people.

Anyone who thinks that there are "good guys" and "bad guys" doesn't understand the way the world works.

Newsflash: humans are all the same, rich or poor, east or west, they all want money, and they'll all do bad things to get it. Nobody has a monopoly on greed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial

Denial

Denial is a psychological defense mechanism in which a person faced with a fact that is uncomfortable or painful to accept rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence. The subject may deny the reality of the unpleasant fact altogether (simple denial), admit the fact but deny its seriousness (minimisation) or admit both the fact and seriousness but deny responsibility (transference). The concept of denial is particularly important to the study of addiction.

During an interview with an author who is critical of the State Department, Robertson said, "If I could just get a nuclear device inside Foggy Bottom, I think that's the answer." He told Joel Mowbray that after reading his book, "you say, 'We've got to blow that thing up."
