recycle the cakes?

has anyone tried to take an expended cake and tried to use this as a substrate? basically taking your old cakes pressure cooking them with more virgin substrate and inoculating them with new spores. i know pressure cooking will kill the mycelium but would the new mycelium eat the old dead mycelium and still have a nutritional value to us or would it just decay to contaminents?

I wouldnt tryi it, simply because the "old mycelium" cold have used up some of the water content in the jars, not to mention the fact that the reason they might not have grown in the first place is lack of water.
Jars are easy enough to set up that I wpuldnt try it.

i meant after the cake has stopped fruiting so it's not wasting a cake

nutrients have already been consumed from the cake, so I wouldn't advise trying to use it as new substrate.
