Shroom ID help...?

Does anyone have a clue what these are, I found them awhile back, and never could ID them. two different species, both had identical spore prints, brown? the darker ones even seemed to blue a little as you might be able to pick up from the the photos...they are probably nothing, but hey what the hell. The bottom ones may be sulfer tufts? but what really interested me was the resemblance of the darker ones to cyans...not saying they are, but they seemed to look similar, with the white stems and wavy caps...growing in clusters on woodchips...Thanks

(prob. cyans) pic#3: prob cyans pic#4: cyans pic#5: wow, i dono about this one, looks as if it is a cyan, but the yellow gills do not make me very confident... pic#6: baeocystis pic#7 + pic#8: i have no idea, but nothing psycoactive...

Excellent findings again S.T. For these - i would recommend that you go to your local public or university library, look at their mushroom books. Sorry but i can never seem to remember what state these are being found..NH or ME?? -Anyways your a lucky shroomer to have found them. (the ones picture up top im talking about) They appear to be a type of psycoactive Gymnopilus to me. When i get home ill check my new mushroom books annie rented for me at the library, and thats why i suggested that =) Keep shroomin g

"They appear to be a type of psycoactive Gymnopilus to me" I support this idea, they gills are very "Gymnopiluish" and spore print color matchs. Also does the stem break easially ? What i want to know is its consistency, it should not bind but break. Peace, MAIA

And I thought that I was the Gym expert...hmmm. I really did not take these for Gyms because of the lack of yelow/orange/red color. To me they seem to resemble a wood loving psilocybe...just the dark ones. Some of the stems were also very white, unlike any Gym I have found, and they smelled more like psilos too. I dunno, I looked in the Audubon book and a guide to northeastern mushrooms, and did not find them. I live in Ontario, Canada near the Quebec border btw. Anyone else have a clue on these, Lizard King, Mjshroomer? would be very intersted to ID them, this spot was very well hidden, lots of hard woodchips in and around pine trees and other shrubs, very moist and there were tonnes of them. If they are something I will surely go back in the spring and collect a bunch...cheers.

After further researching these the dark ones at least may be some type of Inocybe...possible psychoactive...will have to search further. They do share some characteristics with them...so we shall see. I know MJshroomer has a list on his site of a few Inocybe, but does anyone have a complete list...possibly in Stamets book...which my local bookstores don't carry...so I will have to order it...but until then.

Thats what my guess was, some type of inocybe, maybe calaminstrata(sp??) but likely another species, possibly active, possibly not, possibly poisonous, better not eat any of them!!

Thanks guys, and GG is that ID on the viridans positive or just a guess? They did seem a little to hardy to be inocybe.

the top pics do look a lot like Ps cyans, but the brown spore print 100% rules it out, especially if the print looks like those produced by the lower ones. the blueing reaction on Ps cyans is also very obvious within minutes. best test for psilocin is to drop the shroom in a blender with H2O2. it will immidiatly turn blue-jean blue. not black, not green, blue.

Sorry SThomas - :) Thats not positive I have looked around through lots of books trying to identify what you have, Even though ive never heard of Gymnopilus viridans before (well at least until i noticed in mapping the mycelial network listing under Ontario) I havent seen pics of viridans, havent read any descriptions of it either. But the mushrooms your finding might have been found before I had a lot of bongloads for breakfast =) GGreatOne234

I still haven't figured these out yet, they don't 100% fit inocybe either, most inocybe's I have seen pics of look a lot mor fragile than what I found...hmmm. Might have to wait until next year to find some new specimens to figure this out...

Could they be galerina steglechi (sorry 'bout the spelling)?I think Mj has pics of that species at his site. It's active, but apparently rare. I'd lean more towards some type of gymno though. Hope you figure'em out. I don't think they're sulfur tufts. The sulfurs have a very distinct purple-brown sporeprint, with the emphasis on the purple color, if I remember correctly. doo
