Catnip, homegrown, experience report
    #5095972 - 12/22/05 10:04 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

12.22.05

Ok, testing the catnip(Nepetea cataria).  I have been growing a catnip for about a year now.  A month ago, when the plant was large and flowering(most potent time) i harvested all of the leaves and flowers.  They were dried for a week then placed into a mason jar and the lid tightened.  30-days later(cure?) brings us to todays experiment.

Tonight i decided to give the homegrown a try.  I plucked a few leaves and flowering heads from the jar, crushed them up between my fingers(my god it smells so good, i love the smell of catnip!) and smoked a bowl.  This bowl was a clean bowl in that only coltsfoot had been smoked out of it once before, so effect wise we can rule out leftovers from earlier expeditions.

I packed it light to form some kind of baseline expectation, so it was pretty well gone after a few hits. I found the taste pleasant. Effects came on gently in a minute or so.  I am definately feeling very relaxed, physically warm, and my tactile sensation is also noticeably pleasant. Clear-minded in a warm kind of way.

30-mins later.  Still feel very relaxed, other effects still present, slightly muted.  This was a low-dose, 2 quick hits.  IMO it seems something is definately there.  Packing a little more next time to see if effects can be enhanced.

before judging ones experience you might want to do a bit of research

^^where in that article does it say it fucks you up?

and he said he was very relaxed and felt calm but in the article it says it is " mildly stimulating." it also says in the article that "It is good in restlessness" no where in that article does it say it makes you calm and relaxed. In fact it says it does the exact opposite being a mild stimulant.

Nice report.  I had a cat mint plant that I grew a few summers ago.  Grew it and harvested all the leaves and went and distributed them amongst the local kitty junkies  :hehehe:  It was great!

Wow...not the response i expected to see when i got up this morning.  If you can drink catnip tea and get relaxed, why is smoking it with simillar results absurd?  Its good to know we have someone so versed in catnip phytochemistry to show us the way.  You must have smoked it yourself numerous times to come to that unequivocal conclusion, and then resorted to name-calling as proof of your intellectual superiority...wow.

No problem, love posting reports and growlogs, most are in my journal.  I should post a sun-opener experience report soon as i'm just about ready to harvest from that plant too.  I have to keep my catnip in a locked room to prevent my kitty junkie from getting to it, but he gets his every once in awhile anyway.  Thanks for the support guys.

I've smoked, snorted and made catnip tea. In my experience smoking catnip is least effective. You can ground up catnip in a coffee grinder to a very fine powder and snort it, quick come on but unpleasent plant material in your nose afterwards. IMO it is best to make tea out of catnip, it is long lasting, and a very pleasent drink. I've actually read (but cannot confirm[from "illegal drugs"]) that in larger doses catnip can produce halllucinations. Catnip tea is the way to go

If I had that much catnip I'd sprinkle it all over my neighborhood...and watch the felines go crazy. I have seen some cats get absolutely MAD with that stuff.

You can buy an ounce of catnip for like 10 dollars at your local pet store...

i've grown and smoked catnip also, found it has a very mild relaxing effect, flowers are more potent imo. my girlfriend finds it moreso relaxing, usually falling alseep within 20mins of smoking (good for cutting back on the buds). and my cat is a huge fan, she loves the stuff

Same here, I tried it when very young.. so long ago that the memory is vague.
I remember not being able to get ahold of some weed (somewhere around ages 14-16) and decided to try out some "cosmic catnip" lol..
I was like whoa, "it says cosmic on the container, that must mean it's some good shit"!!!11 woot.
I smoked and smoked but actually couldn't notice any effect. Might have something to do with the way it was processed since it was already in dry form - from non other than a cat toy..lol. Sorry kitty, got to borrow your little stuffed mouse!
I was a hardcore pothead at the time though.

I smoked it a few times. Didn't feel anything. The smell reminded me of burning transistors.

i find it gives an icky feeling of slight restlessness. i consumed a heavy tea once. worth trying if you just gotta know, not worth repeating. not a placebo for sure, but really not a high or even a buzz.
