How does air drying work? Do i just lay the mushrooms out and put a fan on?

That is all that I do, I place them on top of my dresser and let the celling fan blow on them. I plan to make a better drying setup soon, that forces the air through a chamber to speed up the drying time. Now it takes about 48 hours to completely dry shrooms.

dessicant is cheap enough, tho... just put the babies on a rack above a layer, in a semi-closed container... and with hours, dry. if youre wanting to keep the mushrooms any length of time, this helps..

semi closed container? you must have money to burn because then youare drying out the entire room (assuming the room is sealed ) if not the entire house. fan dry them for 24 hours, and then pop them into a dessicant chamber (instructions in the grow/find section) or you can just fan dry them for like 48 hours if youy live in a low humidity environment (or its winter and dry)

ar393,
I don't understand why people dry with a fan first (24hrs) and then use a desiccant. Is there a difference in potecy or colour. Just wondering. cause I only use des.
Thanks.

I too dont understand why some people fan dry first, then use a disaccant. I just put the mushies immediatly in a container with damprid, they dry in around 36 hours(cracker dry) I have never fan dryed before but it seems like a useles step unless its the only resort. if you already have a disacant, why not use it immediatly?

because you burn through damprid that way, my cat has been using the same damprid for over a year now.
peace, ar393 and cat

I have seen dude put a handfull of shrooms in a container with a lot of dessicant, only to come back the next day to see the mushys all blue and starting to go bad. He says it just works alot better to fan- or even air- dry them first for a while. and also like ar393 said, it is wasteful.

mushy huh? no disaccant has done such a thing to me unless it was touching the disaccant! I am currently using damprid, I think damprid is wastful in its self. I think ill go with drierite next, it can be dryed in the oven unlike damprid. though damprid is dirt cheap

right, but with a fan for 24 hours, you wont have to turn on your oven every other day to dry your dessicant, nor would you keep having to buy more...are you begining to see why fans are used?
peace, ar393

In the Temple, we slice up our fruits, and place on a wire rack, and let nature do its work.
If it is a lot of fruit, we will use dessicant, but tests have proved that air drying works as fast when working with small batches, Also if its humid in your house, makes a diffrence- I wouln't leave in the sunlight, a paper towel over them helps to wick away any exces moisture.
And I dont think its bad if your shrooms turn blue- thats just brusising.....right?
