Whole grain
    #509126 - 01/03/02 04:28 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

I went to my whole foods market store here in Houston, and asked for rye grain or rye berries.

They then showed me this stuff called whole grain, it looked like rye grain but smaller.... is it the same?

Maybe I am mistaken about the size, someone post a good pic of rye grain (berries) if they have one.

Thank you.

well is it whole rye grain, aka not ground? thus using the word whole, in this case meaning intact, to describe the grain.
peace, ar393

Ok I'm still not entirely 100% sure what ya mean.

Ok so whole means it is ground, so whole grain is the same as rye grain yes or no?

I need a few responses on this either saying yes or no... I dont want to buy the grain on account of one persons answer.

I shop at an organic coop with a variety of bulk grains. "Whole grain" is a generic term for any grain still in its hull. Rye is certainly a grain, but so are barley, amaranth, flax, quinoa, wheat and a myriad others.

I would ask someone at the store to trace the bin number as far back as they have to in order to determine exactly which grain it is they are mislabelling. They must have an inventory or ordering information with a more precise description.

If they blow you off, try ordering online. Here's the url to the whole grains page of Diamond Organics: http://www.diamondorganics.com/wholegrains.html. They're my favorite online organic food source.

Good luck.

I also went to Whole Foods to get my rye berry. To answer your first question, yes it is the same. The grain will expand to a larger size taking in water while pressure cooking.
