Movie reccomedations
    #505583 - 12/31/01 01:22 AM (22 years, 3 months ago)

I've been thinking about movies quite a bit during the past few days. I just watched Ebert and Roepers 10 best of 2001 list... I don't want to start a list by any means (I really hate lists) but I was just wondering what movies you might recommend.

Right now I'd recommend Ghost in the Shell. I mentioned it in relation to someones avatar in the "Frightened or Death..." thread a few days ago. (or whenever.) I can't really go into it right now, but I had an urge to mention it, and a desire to just hear some of your favorites, for whatever reason.

Man a very old comedy that I have allways found extremely hillarious is called NO TIME FOR SARGENTS- black & white -Andy Grifith. (Don Knotts plays a small sceen)

This movie was the catalist for the Andy Grifith show. (seriously, it's funny)- It shows a virgin red neck (very young Andy Grifith) that elists/gets drafted into the Army. Andy's caractor is a little denser than on the series. Basicly he is so "hillbillied out" that he only knows the life of the hills. And for every mistake he makes out better.

Shure, it's old. But you will never laugh so hard if you watch this while party-ing. Especially if you enjoy makeing fun of red necks. It's MUCH MUCH diferent than The Andy Grifith show- please keep in mind- it's more adult in nature.

The Sting
Butch Cassidy, and the Sundance Kid
One flew over the Cuckoos nest
Chinatown
Dr. Strangelove
Pink Floyd's The Wall
Full Metal Jacket
Jacob's Ladder
French Connection I & II

BTW Straw Dogs is kind of slow, but the ending is "KILLER"!
(It stars Dustin Hoffman)

Just make sure you see:

Usual Suspects

Full Metal Jacket

Go

By the way, has anyone seen that independent film with that punk kid in the midwest with the purple hair (does the acid with his GF... kinda narrates the movie). He has the friend who doesn't do anything but drink (no drugs).

I've seen it twice on my colleges network independent film channel thing, its a really good movie if anyone happens to know the name of it cause i don't. Anyhows, peace and happy new year.

One movie comes to mind,

"Long day's journey into night."

It's about spiritual defeat of a most ordinary sort.

Usual Suspects, Full Metal Jacket, and Jesus' Son have all been on my list for awhile, but for some reason they always get bumped... I've actually never seen Jesus' Son in a video place yet.

I've seen Go. Funny thing about that: (Spoiler, don't read ahead if you haven't seen it.)
You know the part where the chick gives them allergy meds and tells them it's something else, and they're like "I think I feel something!" and everybody laughs and thinks they're posers. As it turns out, some allergy meds are some of the strongest hallucinogens out there, so some of us are laughing at the people laughing at the posers... Although I doubt they would have taken enough to get the effects, it's funny nonetheless. Well, check it out on erowid if you don't know what I'm talking about.

SLC Punk, staring Mathew Lillard(I think that's how you spell his name). Soon to be made famous(or perhaps infamous if it's ruined) for Scooby Doo!!

As for movie recommendations:
Pi
Where the Buffalo Roam(Hunter S Thompson movie... pre-Fear and Loathing)
Fear and Loathing
Full Metal Jacket
Trainspotting(read the book!!)
U-Turn
12 Monkeys
Falling Down
Well... there's a list of some of my personal favorites.

Hehe, Cube and Bringing Out the Dead are two of my favorite movies. (Bringing out the dead is quite a bit higher on the list though.)

I don't really remember Naked Lunch... I don't know if I've ever seen it sober, or lately... I know for a fact I've seen it, but for some reason I don't remember all that much of it.
