Uninstalling Norton

I followed the advice in the other thread and downloaded and installed AVG Antivirus. It scanned my system (really quickly), and found and healed a trojan that Norton didn't even notice. However, my internet stopped working around this point.
So I called tech support and got connected to some guy in India, of course. Anyways, we went through the whole range of fixes, most of which I had already tried, and concluded that it was a software issue.
I tried uninstalling AVG but that didn't help. Thankfully, Windows' System Restore worked ( :surprised: ).
However, now I want to uninstall Norton and install AVG. But the tech support guy said it's next to impossible to uninstall Norton without fucking up the whole system and probably would require me to reformat the hard drive.
So I said fuck that. Is what he said true, or is it possible to easily uninstall Norton without screwing everything up? And how would I go about uninstalling it?

Do you mean AVG? Because I haven't tried uninstalling Norton yet. So yeah, I uninstalled it from the control panel. Though I'm not sure if it worked or not.

The couple of times I did it it went without problems through the normal Norton install/uninstall utility.
If problems occur, check http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606 http://www.cit.cornell.edu/helpdesk/win/nav/uninstallnav.html http://www.hku.hk/cc/faq/virus/uninstall-NAV.htm

If that doesn't work (Because it's for norton 2003 or earlier)
Try this:
tinyurl.com/6sppr (That's a direct link to the symantec removal tool for norton 2004 and up)

Neither of those truly remove it, like IE it embeds itself so well into the kernel that it can't be removed only hidden.

I did the exact same thing a few days ago and it is working like a charm. I uninstalled the norton and then deleted it out of the program files and installed avg, no problems so far (crosses fingers)...
good luck

Alright cool, well I suppose I'll make a back up (just in case) and then uninstall Norton.
