Overlay King!!!
    #508141 - 01/02/02 09:06 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I understand the principles governing overlay...I keep my terrarium at 75-77 degrees, I average humidity in the mid to high 80's and I fan my 50/50+ casings at least 2-4 times a day...They get light on average of 12 hours a day...It seems like I'm doing everything by the book...Yet all I get is tray after tray of overlay...I've deep scratched and even considered re-casing, but it doesn't seem worth it until I figure out what's going wrong...Any ideas???

Well according to Stamets...overlay can be caused by several things:

~Carbon Dioxide levels remain too high for fruiting

~ Casing surface is too dry

~ The humidity is too low or the air temeperature remains too high

You said the humidity is in the mid 80s...that could be the problem. Try keeping the humidity in the low 90s until you see pins. You said you fan it several times a day, so Co2 shouldnt be the problem... and the temp is ideal fruiting temperatures.. Just make sure the casing layer doesnt get dry

Thanks Shroomism...
I'm guessing you're right...The casing does look a little dry...but I've been misting and the humidity is right on...Still, it's the only logical answer...Should I recase, or try to rehydrate by misitng???
