has anyone tried mythTV yet? I heard good things about. I'm not much of tv person, but still I like to hear about cool ways to use linux. I know my friend uses tivo but hates having to pay the monthly subscription fees - I might mention to him that it is possible to have all the features of tivo for free...

it seems almost too 'user-friendly' to me.

definitely worth checking out, though...

I've wanted to check it out. I still have a question though (maybe you know): I know you install it on top of a kernel (in my case, ubuntu). But once you've done that, can you easily switch back and forth between the MythTV environment and your Gone or KDE desktop? Or does your machine essentially have to be devoted as a MythTV box?

There's a good chance I'll try it soon. I'll let you know how it is.

hmm good question - no idea, actually. I was under the assumption that you'd use a dedicated box for this, but maybe you can switch back and forth by dual-booting.
