Help with Aquarium Heater...

MAybe someeone can help me...
I bought an aquarirum heater last week and I cant get the damn thing to stay on and heat up. What's worse is that my lovely wife threw the box away with the instructions....
I got the heater from wally world for 13.97 dollars
It is a 100 Watt 10" heater taht clips on the side of the aquarium.
I have it submersed to the mark in an empty container of coke filled with h2o
I have it maxed out - but my temp gauge is reading 69. No good for incubating!
I think i might have read that you can life the knob and turn it higher (like rigging a cig. lighter to make 2 foot flames)... anyone know anything about this??
Thanks as always,

Yeah...turn it all the way to the right and then pull the knob off, turn it to the left and put it back on so you can crank it up more..try it once and then test..you may have to do it twice

Thanks for the help!
So - are you also saying that I need to cover the top of the bottle where the heater is ?? My jars are all sealed and taped so water cant get in regardless....
Will sealing the container that the heater is in inhibit the heat?
Thanks again -

Anyone got a definitive answer on covering the container that the aquarium heater is kept in??
Would this affect the overall radiant heat of the incubation chamber in any ways??
Remember the jars are sealed and taped - so I dont see water vapor being a problem....
Thanks

Sealed container will work just fine , you can try it sealed or without and see what kind of temps your getting,, for best results use a cooler . Make sure your heater is fully submersable you dont want to fry it out . It sounds like it might mot be .... They have them at walmart for $20.00 .

We only say to cover the bottle the heater is in because it will allow much condensation to exit...so when you open the lid you have water dripping all over the place. This can lead to contams in my experience...

What I did iis just get a large juice bottle or something with a narrow opening and put the heater in there, it should be just snug enough so there is very little open space in the lid. Then you can just wrap it with duct tape and no water will escape.
