They're great if you only have a few connections to do, like fix an audio cable or something simple.
Change a transistor or two on a circuit board, but if you need prolonged use, the batteries give out quickly.
They are handy though :wink:

THeir good if you have an application where a wire would keep you from doing what you need to do also.

Go to epinions.com and look that thing up. Nothing but terrible reviews there. I was thinking about giving one to my mom, who is a copier technician, but I'm glad I didn't. Apparently they don't get hot enough, and they can fry sensitive electronics too.

Bought one from Radio Shack and returned it 15 minutes later. Crappy for electronic work on circuit boards, electrodes break very easily, Not good for small solder joints at all. If you want this for soldering wires together (Car stereo installations), might not be bad for that. My advise is to get a butane solder pencil for about the same price.
