Does anyone know how to build a cheap 100-200w FM transmitter?

Get yourself one of the rinky dink kiddy science fair toys that only broadcast a few hundred feet. Get yourself a nice powerful linear RF amplifier and a good antenna... oh, and an attorney as well... and have fun until the FCC show up. The FCC has very little humor, especially when they have the FAA guy in the van as well... they get really upset when your broadcasts start to interfere with commercial aviation flights. *innocent smile*

Yeah, after more research, it seems like the idea you said is my best bet.

I think I'm gonna get one of these:

www.electronickits.com/kit/complete/surv/ck207.htm

and try to figure out how to combine 3 or 4 of these:

www.electrokits.com/electronics/amplifiers/198.htm

And I should have 100watts output power, which should be able to be broadcasted to at least a good 5-10 miles if I have a decent antenna.

Any ideas on how to modify that kit to select the channel
(the frequency??) which it broadcasts too?

Also, I'd like to replace the mic with an ''in-line'' jack, that part i'm assuming will just take a new jack soldered on instead of the tiny mic, but I'd have to change the circuitry, such as the resistance, right?

I'm going to start out by building this tiny transmitter.

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to modify this so I could use a 1/4'' input jack instead of the ''electret mic''?

Almost.

When I was in college we built a 2.5 million volt tesla coil in my buddies dorm room on the 11th floor of the building.  When we powered it on, the damn thing started arcing from the center of the room to the superstructure of the building.  Cleared the room real fast!  Ah, the smell of ozone...  It took us about five minutes to find somebody with a key to the breaker box.  During that time, the entire building was acting as an antenna showering the local area with an amazing amount of RFI.  We found out later that the FCC/FAA had shown up looking for the problem.  Apparently we knocked out all air traffic communication in a very large area for about five minutes.  They never found out it was us, be the FCC was there for several days driving around trying to figure out where the interference came from.

What sort of subversive signals do you plan on radiating?

Bombmaking instructions?

Shroomgrowing instructions?

Bong noises?

Isn't the ''electret mic'' just a piezo?

Sure, if I knew that type of info, which I don't though. It's gonna be more about the city's plans to change to community, local elections, etc. With music in between.

Did you wire the tesla coil yourself?

No Faraday cage? I often wondered what would happen if you took the coil out of the cage. Thats pretty cool, IMO.

I used to make some real nice mini FM transmitters when I was a kid. The range was about a mile. I would detune them to around 110mhz which is just above the commercial FM band and just below the Aircraft band..Did the same to my receiver. Lots of fun!
