Yes but not one worthy of natural life imprisonment.
Or the initial death sentence that he got.

rogue_pixie said: Oh my god. I've just watched an interview with Charles Manson. Previously, I had known nothing about him, all the name meant to me was some famous evil murderer. How far from the truth that is. When I first saw him on the screen, he was nothing like I imagined he would be. He was vibrant, articulate and spoke of such profound ideas. Did you know that he has never even killed anyone? He was charged with "conspiracy to murder". He wasn't even present at any of the murder scenes. At his own trial he wasn't able to testify as he was accused of having "hypnotic powers". This man has been imprisoned for life for the actions of others and evident ally, for his subversive ideas. Yet we have bastards here like Tony Blair in power of the country. This world is fucked.
Good for you for noticing. You won't get much support for him here though. Most people are knee jerking in their opinions of him. He was in the hands of the system most of his life and if he became crazy it's because of that. He is correct in saying that he is exactly what the system made him and then they deny responsibility and condemn him for their own sins. Very few are willing to listen to what he says with an open mind. If you do you will see some profound wisdom in that tortured mind. Almost no one wants to confront what he has to show us. They want to quickly condemn him for his crimes (which he did) and then write him off completely.
I once saw him in a prison interview with Haraldo Revera. After an hour I knew for sure that Charlie wasn't the craziest fucker in that room and that crazy fool is the representative for all of the "normal" citizens out there. Go figure.

How do you full or semi-supporters of Manson feel about his blatant racism and his calls for a race war?

"Manson had come to believe Armageddon was imminent, in the form of a global race war, and believed he was destined to be the ultimate beneficiary of it. Manson viewed race war as imminent, describing it as Helter Skelter, "all the wars that have ever been fought, piled on top of each other". He told his followers that this was imminent, but that there was a secret underground world reached by a hole underneath the desert, where they would wait out the war in bliss. He described this many times, and it was a part of their communal belief, so much so that they stocked up supplies and searched for the hole prior to the crimes. Blacks would win the war, but be unable to run the world through lack of experience, and the Family would therefore emerge and run it for them as a benevolent autocracy, with Manson at the head of this new world order. The war would be triggered by "some black people coming out of the ghetto and doing atrocious crimes... killings... writing things in blood." However, by summer 1969, Manson was heard to say that the blacks did not know how to start their role in this war, so he would have to show them." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Manson
i wouldn't really call him a 'racist' - rather, that he believed race war to be unavoidable...

I think it is knee-jerking to claim to know that his whole situation was an "injustice" after watching one stupid thing.

There are plenty of people who were in "the system" (foster care, prison, etc..) that didn't turn into cult leading lunatics who encouraged murder.

Yeah...."the system" forced him to steal those cars when he was a kid. "The system" forced him to do all of the deviant things he did....

Oh, you mean when he calls for a race war between white and black people?
Fuck that murderer. I'd push the lethal injection needle into him myself if I had the chance.

From his interview, it suggested to me that he was above concepts such as racism.
But regardless of whatever they indeed were, his beliefs don't make him worthy of imprisonment.

pixie, you seem to have some sort of fascination with an extreme counterculture and "subversion." i hope you someday realize that neither one of these things are very productive methods for creating any positivity in the world. countercultures only split us apart from each other further; and subversion is an illusion.

Because I think society stinks of complete bullshit and hypocrisy when people like Charles Manson are still in prison but villains like Tony Blair who have advocated the murder of THOUSANDS of innocent people continue to GOVERN my country. Yeah, whacked.
