one big thing with depression is the more depressed you are, the more wrapped up in your problems you are ... and with that in mind, the more you are wrapped up in yourself, the less focus you can put on the outside world, something which can teach you something new every moment ... but only with open ears ...

i struggle with depression all the time, but I've found through repeatedly pinpointing specific reasons for my depression that it gets milder and more transient with the more effort i put into not feeling that way every day ...

That is so true.  There is a reciprocal link between one's thoughts feelings and behavior.  They are all related.  Someone who is depressed tends to focus on the negative.  The more negative your thinking, the more depressed you feel.  The more depressed you feel, the less likely you are to engage in activities and a vicious cycle is created. I know for me, I need to delete "I should have..." from my vocabulary.  It is good to learn from my mistakes but focusing on what I "should have done" is not healthy either.  I call it the should have, would have, could have syndrome

There are some people who have clinical depression (very different from just feeling sad) which can be very serious (I was just reading the suicide link above-great thread).  For some, meds are helpful.  For others, therapy is helpful. And for others, both are helpful.  And for some, unfortunately, no treatment has been found to be helpful.  There is no quick fix or magic pill that will solve all :frown:
