Quick Casing Question
    #5063873 - 12/14/05 06:44 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

After I mix the spawn in with the substrate do I throw the casing layer on top, then incubate until the myc starts to peek through the valleys...or let the substrate colonize completely first then add the casing layer at a later time?

I ask because in the instructional video for the kit I bought it doesnt look like he adds the casing layer at the top before he tells you to let the substrate fully colonize.

I asked this question a few days ago, and someone replied that some do go ahead and case, some don't (most don't). The most logical reason why casing later is best is this: Waiting until the substrate is fully colonized and then casing will give you the best shot at getting an even pinset. If you place the casing layer on when you spawn, it's much more likely that you'll get a big clump of mycelium showing up before the rest of the casing is colonized.
