Cheap Humidity Guage.

So I made my first set up. Due to my growing situation I opted to go for one which was 'hot water powered'
In other words I pour boiling water into the base of my container and have insulation surrounding it to keep the heat in.
However, even when there is STEAM in the tank my humidity guage stays below 70%. This IS bullshit, right? The RH can't possibly be below 100% when there is visible water vapour... can it?
(my humidity guage cost me $2.50 at walmart)

Well, first steam would kill the mycelium. What setup are you doing, sounds like a TIT sorta kinda. Also is this for the IC or the FC. Sounds like a FC since your needing humidity, so is it really cold in the room? Constantly pouring in hot water to keep things warm is not a good idea really, you'll have fluctuating temperatures and the nightmare of constantly changing the water. Why not a fish tank heater. Also try using perlite for humidification. GL

My setup is being design and revised at present, you'll have updates soon.
Microcomputer controlled battery/hotwater powered as to attain complete silence and concealability.
I was just wondering if people though my humidity guage was fucked, because I'm thinking it definitely is.

It could just be that your himidity is in fact too low. Your set-up is confusing, why not just use perlite? Are yo going for some sort of stealth set-up or something?

Steam in the FC sounds bad. You can test you hygrometer
Test your hygrometer
And still use it once you know how off it is.

Electronic hygrometers are inaccurate at the high end of the humidity scale that we use for mushroom growing. I'd recommend going to the local cigar shop. You can get a suitable analog hygrometer for around $15 or less. Calibrate it by wrapping in a damp towel for half an hour, then unwrap and adjust the screw on the back so the dial reads 98%. RR
