I tried PCing spawn bags I made, while they were cooking...they inflated...Well, one..I only cooked up one bag, and when it was done, the bag was inflated just about to the size of the pressure cooker! Any way to fix this or any ideas?

You need to have an outlet for steam release. If you have an autoclave bag without a filter patch, wrap the end of the bag with a rubber band instead of sealing the bag completely. Allowing steam to escape will solve your problem.

I did seal it before pressure cooking. I don't have a hepa filter and I also don't have an impulse sealer. I use an Iron to seal the bags. They do have filter patches, but I don't think much water gets through there. Congrats on becoming a moderator, Wronguy. I'm sure you will make a great addition. You have already made a great first impression to me.

Thank you for those kind words Civic.
If your bags already have filter patches and they're still ballooning up, I don't have an answer for you. I don't use spawn bags very often. I'm sure one of our fine members will chime in here with the same problem and a solution.

Alright. Thanks for the input anyways. I know I should probably seal afterwards, but I have no impulse sealer and no hepa, so this is my only choice for now.

Just a bit or brainstorming. But what would be causing a bag inside of a PC to inflate?
All I can think of would be an excessive amount of steam in the bag. As result of too much water initially.
How well drained was your grains?

Pretty well drained. I think it is caused because things expand when heated...

ime, the bag will inflate even with a filter patch.
trying to get the air out through the patch is difficult also.
the rubberband works great.

i have also had issues where co2 has built up and inflated the bag also.. for that, i made one of hippie's airports, and then taped up the hole with micropore tape.

I was doing a search on oven bag's a while back. And noticed this

A really good idea by Scatmanvar. Seems like if might be a better option then just the filter patch... that is if that is your problem.

the bag is expanding because water expands hundreds of times when heated and converted into a gas. You don't need to seal your bags, just fold the top over and clip with a clothespin. After PCing, and completely cooled (overnight) open the PC, carefully roll the top of the bags over a few times and put the clothespins back on. They will not be hermetically sealed, but they will be closed up enough if you're careful, to keep contams out.
