Tripping to classic rock.
    #505841 - 12/31/01 12:22 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

I tripped this past Saturday and we didn't feel like fucking around with cd'd or mp3s so we just put the radio on tuned to a classic rock station and it was AMAZING!! There is something about those old classic hippy tunes from the 60's and 70's that make them perfect for tripping. It was late at night too so there were only a couple of commercials which was cool. If you live in a big city and have one of these stations give it a try, even if you're not a big fan of this genre of music (like me) you'll still love it.

Haha... you will be a convert soon...
You know, there is probably a coralation between psychedelics going mainstream in the late 60s and the influx of amazing trippin music in the late sixties....

I used to listen to alternative rock stations untill they have turned to shit playing Limp dicklick and Staind and Lincoln Park and all this bullshit all the time. Now I either listen to albums of bands I like or if its the Radio a Classic Rock station and they in general have less commercials and DJs saying stupid shit.

Scratcher,
Yes my friend! Classic Rock is where it is at. Im only 28, but I have been a Classic Rock fan since I was a kid- My dad had a huge collection of vynil that he would listen to, and I guess it rubbed off on me...to my benefit.
I hate the "pop" stations, and at one time was into Alt Stations, but after a while, all the music begins to sound the same, my problem with Pop - But the Classics never die.

Welcome to the Fold!

Yeah, our best classic rock station turns into metalfest late at night (shitty 80s hair metal, metallica, anthrax.. maybe it becomes an 80s rock station?) But, until about midnite, its all Allman Brothers, Zeppelin, Beatles, Stones, Petty, Boston, Foghat, Edgar Winter, America, etc, etc...

I used to be hardcore into heavy metal.. now I can't stand anything but the oldies!

Don't forget Neil Young!
The only new band I listen to is Tool, but they are out of the ordinary.

Most of my favorite tripping music is fairly old. I usually listen to doors, byrds, cream, beatles, greatful dead, velvet underground, etc. when I trip. Punk rock isn't relaxing enough for psychedelics, usually. Usually I throw in some jazz and some mexican, just for spice.

You haven't really heard a song until you've heard it at the peak of an intense mushroom trip.

Evrey time I trip I listen to the best of Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper's followed by Rush-Moving Pictures (wonder where that title came from ), Squeeze-Singles, REO Speedwagon-Hi Infidelity and many varied single tracks like; Harry Nilson's "Jump Into The Fire", Guns 'n' Roses cover of "Sympathy for the Devil" (blows the Stones original away big time!), Edgar Winter Group's "Frankenstein" (mind-blowing), Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpetr Ride", Styx's "Lorelei", War's "Low Rider", Mason Williams' "Classical Gas", the list goes on and on and on.

My favorite song of all time is RUSH's "Limelight"... It's all about tripping (being in the Limelight) Listen to the lyrics! The drums and GUITAR in that song are absolutely phenomenal! I refuse to listen to ANY of the afore-mentioned music unless I'm shroomin'!

I'll probably always do drugs, so that just contributes to the addiction to The Shroomery... It's a vicious circle of bliss. :tongue2:

most classic rock is classic for a reason. i've spent countless trips (lsd, shrooms) just listening to albums. electronica IS drug music but it doesn't have that human touch (i love trance, techno, etc. by the way). anything created during the acid boom is in fact affected by the drug. lets face it most well made music sounds phenominal on psychedelics....thats why people do both at the same time. theres just something about jim morrison's moaning, pink floyds synth riffs, hendrixs guitar production, the deads jams, etc. try something different next time you trip for a while and see if you like it, you'll know real quick if its got that vibe to it or not.

one album that might get overlooked is the beatles abbey road. it IS a complete album done by, just face the facts, one of the best bands ever.
just try it! have some shrooms or drops, close your eyes, and put it on.
tell me what comes to mind when you hear the little frogs peeping!
i promise you'll smile when you hear mccartney laugh while singing.
i promise you'll think 'i want you' is pretty damn cool for a song that only has about 9 words in it.
and what trip wouldn't be sweet with while the dawn is breaking and your peak has ended 'here comes the sun' calmly perks up.

p.s. i could type for hours....(especially about floyd)
want any suggestions email me...yogithehoneybear@yahoo.com
please share your music/tripping favorites.

ok, i hate to rank on your music in 2 threads, but saying the guns version of sympathy for the devil is better than the stones' is fucking blasphemy. yeah, its good, but it loses the whole groove that the early stones music has. personnally, i go with zeppelin, the dead, the brothers (allman), maybe some santana thrown in (and not that new shit), cream, and of course floyd.

i've listened to redemption song by marley... not too big of an impression. i've also tripped to a lot of dylan, and that's very nice. in particular, listen to Knockin' On Heaven's Door by Dylan and Tom Petty
