Sometimes it's cool to see an old thread get bumped back from days gone by.... but most of the time it's somebody that registered less than 2 weeks ago, posting something so inane it makes me dislike the orginal thread.
Maybe it's just been happening with increased frequency lately but I'd like to see this function disabled, if not completely, then for users < # months old...
I like the Related Thread function but when it's overused, it's hard to tell which threads are from last night and which were started in 2003.

I like it in like Cultivation, ODD, The experience and stuff like that but I don't see why it is in some of the other forums. Like you can usually get reall go info from them.

Sheesh, I can't win! First everybody bitches about newbs asking repetitive questions and not searching the site. I make the board automatically show related threads, then people bitch about old posts being bumped. Is there anything you guys would be satisfied with, short of me disabling new registrations?

In al seriousness, the social forums really don't need the related threads. It still works for forums like PAL, S&P, and cult, but in the Pub and OTD b/c the flow of conversation moves much faster and become outdated much more quickly.

Very true, I mostly kept them in the community forums for two reasons:
Continuity - it's just more straightforward if all similar pages have the same interface.
Personal interest - I like to see what threads the search algorithm turns up for random posts.
But yeah they could be removed easily enough, and it would even reduce the server load a bit. What do other people think?

Fair enough. It really doesn't matter to me either way. I bitch at people when they reply to old posts, but it doesn't really bother me.

Yeah in the past I've felt that the best way to deal with this is relentless mocking. But if it's becoming an increasing problem it's still worth considering technical steps we can take.

I've suggested it before... but not sure it's possible. To have a message window pop up and confirm a reply to any post older than a given time. 2 months, a year, whatever it is. Just a thought.

True, I totally understand why it's needed in the on topic forums.
Should it continue to be a problem in the pub I'll post something in the mod forum. It's only happened a few times where a newb will bump 5 or 10 old threads and take over a part of the first page in the forum.
I don't think anyone minds someone bumping an old thread to reminisce about something from the past.

yea, like the other day, i was reading the naked mushroom girls thread, and i was like "why the hell is there controvrsy all of a sudden?"... then robot was like "dude, this thread's 3 years old" boy did i feel dumb...
good read though...
