I have a set of plastic petri dishes that i had from a previous failed attempt. How would one go about resteralizing them? of course i will wash them out good first.

They are not intended to be resterilized and they do not survive pressure cooking (I know, I tried)
You can probably make them sterile enough for use by cleaning them out really well with soap and water and then rinsing in alcohol or a 10% bleach solution.
The plastic dishes are pretty cheap though, its easier to buy some new presterilized sleeves. Or practice with shallow glass jars.

I highly recommend pyrex petri dishes. The polycarbonate dishes scratch like shit after a few uses and the regular glass petris can't sustain sudden extreme changes in temperature. Although they're like $5 a dish, they last forever(if you don't drop them).
