  In the case of a chillum, you smoke it like a pipe, dont suck too hard and hold it upward so the weed doesnt fall out.  Its like a pipe but gives more direct hits and is harder to use.  I love chillums. In some parts of the world(mid-east) thats all they will smoke out of and consider the pipe to be almost as sacred as the herb.
Pipes and chillums, mmmmmmmm tasty.  I like joints too, but the cone shape deserves a laugh if youve ever smoked one.  Its like rolling an eighth into a joint (or a freaking blunt?).  To casual onlookers it just may seem silly.  To each his own though.

Well, for me, half the fun of smoking a joint is the rolling of it, and i love rolling up a nice, fat cone. They rip so hard for the first few hits, its amazing.

but i thought about this more, and glass is definatly my preferance. Passing around the 16 inch bong last night set my mind straight

and now we go and pack a bowl in the one-footer
