cakes going into fridge
    #5051614 - 12/12/05 09:57 AM (18 years, 2 months ago)

I searched the forum, but could not find a result. I am leaving for break soon and plan to put my colonized cakes (some partially, some fully colonized) in the fridge to slow growth. When i do this, should i put tape over the holes to prevent contams? Should I clean my fridge out real well?

In my limited experience, I would just put my jars in Tupperware or you could use tape then into the fridge. The mycelium seems somewhat resistant to contam but the layer of dry verm should be OK. So definitely take whatever precautions you are comfortable with. Also...Couldn't hurt to clean the fridge...not necessary but man...any excuse to clean is a good one.

I would take all precautions possible such as placeing a piece of aluminum foil or breatable tape over the holes. i like the idea of placeing them in a tubberware container. if you do clean the fridge i would recomend a 10% bleach to 90% water solution.
