I'm basically trying to expand on a previous recipe the consisted of: 2 Cups BRF 3 Cups Composted Manure (Basically just humus) 4 Cups Vermiculite Dash of Rye Flour, maybe 10 grams (all i had left) Water to proper content This previous recipe worked well! Strong, Rhizomorphic growth after 7 days, about 66% colonized (pints). Proposed Recipe ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2 Parts Rye Flour (Organic Whole Grain grounded to flour) 2 Parts Worm Castings 2 Parts Composted Manure 2 Parts Vermiculite 1 Part Perlite 1 Part Rye Grass Seed * (flour or grain?) Enough water for proper moisture * Does Rye Grass seed contain nutrients that rye grain doesn't? If theres no added benefit to adding rye grass-seed, Change above recipe to 3 Cups Rye Flour What are some specied of Cubes that might work well on this recipe? I have Tas, Cambo, GC, EQ, and PES Hawaiian. I may also test this recipe with Cop. Cyans. There's always room for improvement! Please post your thoughts on this recipe! Thanks in advanced!

Well, since I didn't get too many replyies, I think I'll just do some experiements with different substrates and report back with my results. Thanks anyways :)

>Does Rye Grass seed contain nutrients that rye grain doesn't? Rye grass seed and rye grain are 2 totally different things. But both will get colonized by any mycelium.

sounds like we are interested in doing the same thing-getting the best substrate. if i can get some dung, i will try your mix. i am trying quick cereal mixes and i am doing tests with cous-cous mixes, quinoa (does what it says on the tin), and now starting to try bran based breakfast cereal like all-bran. i am yet to find an article detailing the dietry requirements of cubensis strain, and a breakdown of the nutrients in different substrate components. if you or anyone else is interested in teaming-up to investigate as many combinations as possible until we find the perfect mix then mail me at n2thepowerofn@yahoo.co.uk and we can start a new thread to collect results and coordinate experiments.

Why are you trying to mix bulk substrate ingredients with your spawn ingredients? That's been tried many times as a way to save a step, but it costs more in yields than it saves by skipping a step. BRF is not a good bulk substrate, nor is manure a good spawn. RR
