Desktop Icons.

Does anyone know how to make the area around words under the desktop icons translucent? I had them like that before and now I can't figure out how to get them like that again. It's just a solid dark gray colour around the words.
Oh, and I have Windows XP pro.

When icons lose their transparency it is usually due to the icons becoming dirty. Use Windex to clean those icons, and then polish them gently with a soft cotton cloth. Make sure you get the edges good to clean out the grime that collects there. Don't worry about the backside of the icons as they are turned inward to the monitor and not exposed to the air.

The link above gave the correct info. Go back over it carefully and a reboot after might help.

Perhaps this may shed some light on this problem.
I got a bunch of viruses earlier today, or yesterday.
Basically my desktop picture was messed up, and it wouldn't allow me to change it. After removing the viruses I noticed I couldn't change my desktop picture back, or choose any other desktop picture.
http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37820
I saw on this site that that person had the same problem, so I followed what it said and deleted the wallpaper.htm in regedit.
It fixed everything, except now it looks shitty with these non-translucent icons. I saved that part of the registry, but whenever I load it back on it does that stupid shit where I can't change the picture, and it still looks like that.
Also the person having that problem said they changed their resolution and it fixed the problem. I tried this and it didn't work.

Alright well never mind.
I said fuck it and did system restore.
The icons are back... but I dunno if anything else is fucked up now.
Well, thanks anyways for looking into it.
