Hehehehe...I've also gotta do a 50-word write up of my top 5 albums of 2005 and a 50-word writeup of my top 5 live shows of 2005, for Loose Record. I'll post that here for sure.
#1 Live show - David Byrne, on LSD. mmmm.

I would have to say:
#1, without a doubt, The National - Alligator #2 - Sufjan Stevens - Come On! Feel the Illinoise! #3 - My Morning Jacket - Z #4 - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - self titled #5 - Chad Vangaalen - Infiniheart

Never seen Sufjan live.
Scene points?! Hey, I'm offended here. If I wanted "scene points" that list would have The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, and Wolf Parade (which I have decided, as good as it is, is the #1 overrated album of 2005.)
The National is one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time. Seriously. In the company of Talking Heads and Radiohead.

haha i'm just screwing with you. i actually got my friend Phill really in to The National a few weeks ago.
i forgot about 'get behind me satan' - although it wouldn't replace any of the 5 on my previously stated list. Franz Ferdinand... meh. As for the #1 overrated album (that although good, is incredibly overrated), I'd have to go for Bloc Party. i remember a period of weeks where they were all you heard about, and now i haven't heard a word of them in months...

Just cleaned one of my bathrooms, drinking a cup of Earl Grey (try Stash Double Bergamot some time; it's excellent), and I'm about to take my bike to get a Sunday paper. Going to comb it for job listings.
Edit: Top five live shows of 2005? Good question. I've seen at least 50. Here are my ten favorites, in no particular order:
Melvin Seals and the JGB at Schwagstock (two nights, September) Vince Welnick and Friends (all four W. Michigan gigs, November) Greatful Dead Tribute (Gathering of the Vibes) Dark Star Orchestra at All Good Festival Keller Williams at Gathering of the Vibes moe. (last night of moe.down where they played Terrapin Station) Widespread Panic at Bonnaroo (second night) Matisyahu at moe.down Boombox at Kinetic Playground (Chicago) A certain local show, location and band name withheld

hey man good luck with that. Sometimes lookin through the sunday paper with a cup of coffee or tea, while job hunting, can actually be a relaxing way to spend a Sunday. I had to do that ever sunday for a few months before I landed my sweet situation.
Krishna: yeah, bloc party can't make the list...just on principal.
I saw The National play this tiny NJ venue called Maxwell's. #2 best show of the year.

wow my mother kicks so much ass.
i called her this morning, to see if they wanted me to come over for lunch. anyhow, i was explaining how a friend is having a pot-luck tonight, and how i wanted her to help me make a big serving of chana masala to pass around at the pot-luck. just got a call back from her, saying that my dad had to work a bit late today, so she went ahead and made me a huge batch of chana masala, and is heading in to town to pick up my dad, and to take me to lunch. now i just have to try to pass of the world's most excellent indian food as my own at this pot-luck

The principle of not listing something just because it got so big. There was better music made this year. That's all. Not givin in to the hype machine.

I dunno, I enjoy bloc party as much as my morning jacket.
I wasn't really aware of the hype in regards to them, I hear about the same amount of big-uppin' from people for either band.

My morning Jacket doesn't get anywhere near the air-time on radio/TV that bloc party does, they get far less exposure...yet word of them spreads, but far more on the merit of their music, I believe.

fair enuff.
I've haven't seen or heard either of them on tv or radio, but I don't have cable, and listen mostly to talk radio so I'm just basing my opinion off the enjoyment factor.
One thing I can say about MMJ is that my cousin is into them enough to travel all the way to san fran to see them/be in their video or something. He did get to visit the haight while he was there though.

I've seen the Jacket a bunch of times, they are one of the best live bands out there right now IMO...they throw down, and they throw down hard.

Also - two summers ago I flew to Colorado to see Radiohead. Then two days later I flew to Vancouver to see REM one night, and Radiohead the next. Thom Yorke joined REM on stage, and Michael Stipe joined Radiohead on stage the next night!
