Gun control part #666
    #504633 - 12/30/01 07:19 AM (14 years, 11 months ago)

It's odd. I've always believed in gun control until I came here.

Now slowly I am starting to believe in the libertarian stuff. I've lived in anti-firearm Europe most of my life. Now I want to join the Swiss military just so I can have my own free SiG 90.

You've corrupted me!

Excellent, :-)

I'm glad you've come around to not blaming guns for all the problems created by man like so many europeans do.

It's cool the way the swiss give out the military rifles to keep in your home yourself, and have one of the highest rates of personal firearms ownership. Coincidentily the swiss have about the lowest rate of home burglaries ins in the civalized world.

Take care and God bless

Funny enough some whacko killed 15 people in a cantonal parliament (swiss canton = american state sort of)... With an assault rifle.. which he BOUGHT from a legal arms dealer.. he was kicked from the military due to some mental problems.

There should be some control over the weapons. As this case proves... but it would not help much I suppose. I don't know about the burglaries, where do you get that statistic from? I really think it's quite high considering there's around 20% non-Swiss (mainly ex-Yugo and Turkish) who live rather poorly .. poverty causes crime etc.

Europeans are no better than Americans really. They are as hypocritical about everything as they say the Americans are.. no antisemitism alllowed at all. There are serious laws against that, it's fucking silly. The people in the German-speaking parts are not allowed to publish things whitepower.org can claiming the jews control the media..... I should start a new thread aboot that this is getting way off topic.

Anyways, I'm too lazy to join the military I'd rather clean old ladies butts... it's more of a public service anyways.

I get a lot of statistics from gun rights web sites.

In reply to:

non-Swiss (mainly ex-Yugo and Turkish) who live rather poorly .. poverty causes crime etc.

That's not true, dishonesty causes crime, not poverty. A person can be dirt poor and not have enough to eat and won't be dishonest. On the other hand a person can be rich and drive a $50,000 car and be dishonest and crooked. I've seen a rich looking guy in a new mercedes pull up to a gas station and steal a trash can and put it in his trunk after emteying out the garbage. Poverty doesn't equate with dishonesty. I actually think that the poor tend to be more honest than the rich, because they can afford morals and scruples and the rich can not (ever read Pygmalion(my fair lady is based on it)?)...

About the no anti-semitism allowed thing. I think that's a violation of free speech. It really is. But we wrote the Krauts new constitution and we didn't want the NAZIs to start their kill the jews bit again so we outlawed it.

Take care

Gun rights sites are as biased as anti-gun ones I hope you know..

Ah I must have worded it poorly, the crime part. What I meant was violence in place of crime. Crime is quite evenly distributed through the classes I suppose. Poor and uneducated people express their crime through violence and the rich just manipulate the stocks and bribe officials, very simplified..

The fact is that mainly ex-Yugo, Turkish and Albanians cause most violent and drug (which of course is another matter entirely) crime in Switzerland proportionally, I am just basing this on what the popular newspapers and people tell me. I like to call it the "asshole-or-doesn't-find-anything-better"-factor.

Also, dishonesty is evenly distributed I think.. maybe leaning to the rich side a bit, afterall you can't get rich being all honest can you? I tend to trust the poor more usually (as long as I'm not in junky Amsterdam red light or here in Bangkok.. actually here I don't trust anyone), they have more to lose in dealings with me than I do. It's always that great uncertainty, anyone could have their own agenda.

Gun control to trust. Never trust stoners with keeping a thread on topic.

PjS writes:

"...you can't get rich being all honest can you?"

Bullshit. It may be impossible to get rich honestly in a Socialist country, but that is not the case in a free country.

"I'm glad you've come around to not blaming guns for all the problems created by man like so many europeans do. "

Just because you believe in gun control doesn't mean you blame guns for problems.

I believe in gun control. But person 1 shoots person 2 it isn't the gun's fault. It's person 1's fault. But acknowledging that connection doesn't mean I don't believe in gun control.

If you think removing guns will work. You are stupid.
Statistics on gun murder provide that this amount of people is killed by guns, because they fought and killed each other with guns. So you have two or one death contributed to a gun battle. But then let's say guns are outlawed. It's back to metal poles and kicking peoples heads into the cement. Same statistic, just going to be outlawing metal poles now. So where did statistics find the awnser. Just mind control bullshit. I say less stress. But where did it come from.
