My understanding for the Army is a test before entering at MEPS. Then in basic and AIT and randomly thereafter.
I've been clean for a couple weeks now. Just trying to figure out when exactly I want to go to basic. The winter would suck, but the longer I wait the more I may come up with excuses not to join and the more time I have to be tempted by the devil weed
You gonna go Army?

There's about 150,000 American troops in Iraq. ~2134 have been killed. That means there is about a 1.4% chance of being killed.

What branch are you considering? I know there was a few other people around here that were thinking of joining. We could all join at the same time and have a Shroomery squad

Just about everyone I know that spoke with an Army recruiter was given whatever to pass the test. Everything from an exercise program to cranberry juice to the $60 drinks from the head shop. They'd give the home tests in the recruiting office 2-3 times a week until they felt your were clean enough to go down to MEPS. They want you to get in.
Much better to get clean for a month or three before talking to the recruiter. Get the shit out of your system and have a chance for your lungs to regroup a little.

OK guys, if your going in, here's some advice if you ever get sent into a combat zone... GET YOUR SHOTGUN QUALS DONE. Trust me, aiming when someone is actually shooting at you is tricky at best. I did my quals and bought a 12 ga Benelli M4 Super 90 to carry with me. Some units will let you carry your own stuff, others don't like having different types of ammo around. 12 ga is pretty standard and will pack a huge punch if your having to work inside a populated area with buildings.
If your willing to spring out the dough for one I'd recommend trying out a AA12 shotgun. I've shot one and I wish they had been around when I was in the service. This is a drum fed automatic shotgun that'll pump out buckshot at 360 rounds per minute on full auto. Drums are cheap, and you can stack them in your ruck.
Look at this. I dug up a short movie of one being used on a range. http://www.bofunk.com/video/1718/automatic_shotgun.html
That's firepower!

And that drum isn't full, in that video. LE and Milspec drums hold 30 rounds i think.

That gun will fucking SHREAD anything in front of it... and it can be chambered in 3" magnum 12 ga. 3" mags with buckshot in a 30 rnd drum will solve most problems that don't involve armored vehicles...
