On this day in 1980, John Lennon was shot dead by a crazed fan in New York. Take some time to honour his memory by listening to some Beatles music or his solo work. Was anyone here alive on the day he was killed? How did it make you feel, and what did your friends and family think? I wasn't yet born in 1980, but I'm sure I would have been devastated if I was alive at the time.
R.I.P. John Lennon. We will always remember your amazing music and your strong belief in world peace and love for everyone.

"crazed fan"?
I'm assuming he wasn't a fan if he shot him.
John Lennon was a very profound person and I totally respect him and his work. What would the world have been like with out The Beatles and their revolution?

I forgot to mention - John gave us the song/term 'lucy in the sky with diamonds' which is used as a reference to acid quite often on these forums.

As a child, Chapman's father beat his mother. When this would happen, he would go into a make believe world. When the Beatles became popular, he liked them so much that he let them into his little world, where no one else was allowed. Chapman attempted to model his entire life after Lennon.
After the breakup of the Beatles, John pretty much admitted that all of that all of the values the Beatles held were just made up for publicity and were wrong. Chapman realized his idol was nothing but a phoney (he was a fan of Catcher in the Rye,) and was no one special. He decided to make an example of John so that people would realize how phoney people could be.
At least this is what I gathered from the 2-hour special that was on TV a few weeks ago.

I was never aware that Lennon pronounced all the values in there songs to be phoney fabrications for the purpose of selling records--- I dont think he would of said it like that anyways---many of those songs come from the heart and had to have some truth to them.
The guy died years before I was born but I still sometimes cry when I turn on the "imagine" video and remember that such a wonderful person was shot down dead for no reason at all. He was such a peaceful man, there are no possible vindicated reason somebody could have had to kill Lennon. Im not a violent person at all but if there was one person in this world I could think of that I wouldnt mind shooting down dead, CHapman would probably be it.
