PR cake going mad
    #503467 -

ok on 12-08-01 i innoced a bunch of cakes; namely a bunch of KS and one PR from 2cc i had leftover from a while back. birthed all KS on sunday 12-23 and double cased and are in terrarium at optimal conditions. next day slight fuzzy growth extends outward and into vern casings as expected. 12-25 I birthed the PR cake with same double end method and placed in same terrarium. this morning 12-28 i look at then b4 work and all 6 KS cakes are progressing well; some larger chunks of fuzz on most cakes and nicer rhiz moving thru top end casing layer. however the PR cake 2 days older outside the jar is literally completely covered with the fuzzy stuff expanding ot about 1/8" around the whole cake and has also ripped thru the top casing (top casings are all very thin; like just under 1/4") and it has formed white balls all around it also. 1 of teh KS cakes has 2 very small pins but these balls on the PR cake are all over; like 30 or so. are those gonna be pins or what? its just amazing to me b/c i thought PR's were only average or even a little slow when it comes to growth compared to other cubes; and also thought KS were supposed to be extremely fast. can anyone with experience w/ PR cakes relate to this huge amount of fluff and the balls that are forming in/on it and why it is moving faster than the KS?

I only have a little experience with PRs, but here is my take on it. First of all PRs are very rhizomorphic in a terrarium environment and in ideal conditions you will see the mycelium growing off your cake/casing like strands reaching out in all directions. As far as the balls go, thats not necessarily good, in my experience they will turn to fat asses. You might have too much moisture and not enough humidity. Are you using a humidifier or perlite? hope this helps.
