I think Shinedown's cover of Simple Man blows away the Skynyrd version... but then again I'm a stickler for audio quality and spine-melting vocal sustain...

Shadow's Falls' version of "Welcome to the Machine" is way better than the original by Pink Floyd. Shadows Fall's version added so much intensity to the guitars.

God I wish I knew the name of the band, maybe someone could help me, but it was a chick singing - "I can see for miles" - by the Who...
I would give my right arm to know who did that cover because I am a huge fan of the Who, and I liked it better!

I've never heard a cover better than the original.

Oh, I'll also add 311's cover of "Love Song" by The Cure.
I know, I know, it's been overplayed TO DEATH, but I still think their performance of this song is simply more impressive. (Maybe this is because I don't like The Cure. )

I like the Coil version of Tainted Love. I wouldn't say it's better then the original, it's just a completely different take on the track. I like it though.

absolutely correct. Far better.
My pick:
Deftones - Please please please let me get what I want.
and the goldfinger cover of "99 red love baloons" destroyed the original.

Good call, although I can't say I've heard the original... hehe. I like the deftones version though.

Local H did a cover of Toxic that actually sounds like it might have been a rock tune. Blows Brittany Spears out of the water. Never thought I'd admit liking a song of hers, but the Local H version verges on Nirvana-esque. The vocals in the chorus remind me a lot of Kurt's vocal style.

I definitely dig it... I can't even imagine how this could be a Britney Spears song. (Never heard it.)
The pre-chorus is fucking awesome. (the part that ends with "...do you feel me now?")
but I'd say the vocals in the chorus simply sound like Local H... hehe. Granted, the band does have a similarity to Nirvana.
