problem deleting things...
    #5030225 - 12/07/05 07:18 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

So, there are a few movies i want to delete off my hard drive. Everytime i try, it tells me they are in use by another application.
I closed everything, had nothing running, and still got that message. Any ideas on how to delete these things?

I get that sometimes, too. I have no idea why it's doing it, though.

I tried it in safe mode, that didnt work, same exact error message popped up. It is using Internet explorer, from what i can tell.

Im using firefox right now, can i delete Internet Explorer?

I know that this file is somehow using IE, because everytime i try to delete it, my computer bogs down, and IE uses 98% of my pc resources.

IE is impossible to delete, if you do it will break the kernel. Your real problem is windows itself. Go to http://ubuntulinux.org and follow the directions and your computer will be fixed (even better than before).

You could use a linux live cd, mount your windows and force delete it that way...

i actually changed the name to peice of shit.

i have to resart my computer everytime i try to delete this thing, because IE (POS) sends my memory usage to 100% and doubles my virtual memory usage.

You could always reformat.. but that wipes your hard drive clean.

there is a utility called MoveOnBoot that will allow you to specify files to be moved or deleted at boot time before Windoze can lock the files.

not sure if this helps the above situation but seemed on topic.
