40 Reasons For Gun Control
    #502950 - 12/28/01 12:52 AM (21 years, 11 months ago)

40 Reasons For Gun Control
1. Banning guns works, which is why New York, DC, & Chicago cops need guns.

2. Washington DC's low murder rate of 69 per 100,000 is due to strict gun control, and Indianapolis' high murder rate of 9 per 100,000 is due to the lack of gun control.

3. Statistics showing high murder rates justify gun control but statistics showing increasing murder rates after gun control are "just statistics."

4. The Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban, both of which went into effect in 1994 are responsible for the decrease in violent crime rates, which have been declining since 1991.

5. We must get rid of guns because a deranged lunatic may go on a shooting spree at any time and anyone who would own a gun out of fear of such a lunatic is paranoid.

6. The more helpless you are the safer you are from criminals.

7. An intruder will be incapacitated by tear gas or oven spray, but if shot with a .357 Magnum will get angry and kill you.

8. A woman raped and strangled is morally superior to a woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet.

9. When confronted by violent criminals, you should "put up no defense - give them what they want, or run" (Handgun Control Inc. Chairman Pete Shields, Guns Don't Die - People Do, 1981, p. 125).

10. The New England Journal of Medicine is filled with expert advice about guns; just like Guns & Ammo has some excellent treatises on heart surgery.

11. One should consult an automotive engineer for safer seatbelts, a civil engineer for a better bridge, a surgeon for internal medicine, a computer programmer for hard drive problems, and Sarah Brady for firearms expertise.

12. The 2nd Amendment, ratified in 1787, refers to the National Guard, which was created 130 years later, in 1917.

13. The National Guard, federally funded, with bases on federal land, using federally-owned weapons vehicles buildings and uniforms, punishing trespassers under federal law, is a "state" militia.

14. These phrases: "right of the people peaceably to assemble," "right of the people to be secure in their homes," "enumerations herein of certain rights shall not be construed to disparage others retained by the people," and "The powers not delegated herein are reserved to the states respectively, and to the people" all refer to individuals, but "the right of the people to keep and bear arm" refers to the state.

15. "The Constitution is strong and will never change." But we should ban and seize all guns thereby violating the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Amendments to that Constitution.

16. Rifles and handguns aren't necessary to national defense! Of course, the army has hundreds of thousands of them.

17. Private citizens shouldn't have handguns, because they aren't "military weapons", but private citizens shouldn't have "assault rifles", because they are military weapons.

18. In spite of waiting periods, background checks, fingerprinting, government forms, etc., guns today are too readily available, which is responsible for recent school shootings. In the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's, anyone could buy guns at hardware stores, army surplus stores, gas stations, variety stores, Sears mail order, no waiting, no background check, no fingerprints, no government forms and there were no school shootings.

19. The NRA's attempt to run a "don't touch" campaign about kids handling guns is propaganda, but the anti-gun lobby's attempt to run a "don't touch" campaign is responsible social activity.

20. Guns are so complex that special training is necessary to use them properly, and so simple to use that they make murder easy.

21. A handgun, with up to 4 controls, is far too complex for the typical adult to learn to use, as opposed to an automobile that only has 20.

22. Women are just as intelligent and capable as men but a woman with a gun is "an accident waiting to happen" and gun makers' advertisements aimed at women are "preying on their fears."

23. Ordinary people in the presence of guns turn into slaughtering butchers but revert to normal when the weapon is removed.

24. Guns cause violence, which is why there are so many mass killings at gun shows.

25. A majority of the population supports gun control, just like a majority of the population supported owning slaves.

26. Any self-loading small arm can legitimately be considered to be a "weapon of mass destruction" or an "assault weapon."

27. Most people can't be trusted, so we should have laws against guns, which most people will abide by because they can be trusted.

28. The right of Internet pornographers to exist cannot be questioned because it is constitutionally protected by the Bill of Rights, but the use of handguns for self defense is not really protected by the Bill of Rights.

29. Free speech entitles one to own newspapers, transmitters, computers, and typewriters, but self- defense only justifies bare hands.

30. The ACLU is good because it uncompromisingly defends certain parts of the Constitution, and the NRA is bad, because it defends other parts of the Constitution.

31. Charlton Heston, a movie actor as president of the NRA is a cheap lunatic who should be ignored, but Michael Douglas, a movie actor as a representative of Handgun Control, Inc. is an ambassador for peace who is entitled to an audience at the UN arms control summit.

32. Police operate with backup within groups, which is why they need larger capacity pistol magazines than do "civilians" who must face criminals alone and therefore need less ammunition.

33. We should ban "Saturday Night Specials" and other inexpensive guns because it's not fair that poor people have access to guns too.

34. Police officers have some special Jedi-like mastery over handguns that private citizens can never hope to obtain.

35. Private citizens don't need a gun for self- protection because the police are there to protect them even though the Supreme Court says the police are not responsible for their protection.

36. Citizens don't need to carry a gun for personal protection but police chiefs, who are desk-bound administrators who work in a building filled with cops, need a gun.

37. "Assault weapons" have no purpose other than to kill large numbers of people. The police need assault weapons. You do not.

38. When Microsoft pressures its distributors to give Microsoft preferential promotion, that's bad; but when the Federal government pressures cities to buy guns only from Smith & Wesson, that's good.

39. Trigger locks do not interfere with the ability to use a gun for defensive purposes, which is why you see police officers with one on their duty weapon.

40. Handgun Control, Inc., says they want to "keep guns out of the wrong hands." Guess what? You have the wrong hands.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I think I've seen something like this before, but this was just hillarious. You have to seriously wonder about gun-control proponents.

I'm told that when I removed the rubber stops in my new clips to allow for greater capacity i was in voilation of federal law will face mandatory jail time if convicted.

beautiful. Only a fool argues we should not have personal firearms in America.....

Feign, glad you like it as much as I do!

PGF, it's a shame that there are such oppresive laws we live under. I understand your motive in your magazine modification so be careful not to get caught. I hope you've tested it with at least 500 rounds so you can determine if it effects reliability or not. Personally I'm a revolver man so the capacity issue isn't such a big deal with me. I figure there aren't many criminals that would be willing to stick around someone elses home for a protracted gun battle and if 6 shots won't do the job it'll probably be too late for a 17 rounder too. It's unfortunate that taking measures which make us safer are considered illegal, but it's better to be alive and in trouble than be dead and a good citizen. Like the old saying, "It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by six."

Take care

One of the mod'd mags is useless and jams my gun and lives at the land fill now. The other is solid. No troubles, better than the stock sig clips and holds 13.

The sig has a long pull and I am really considering a Glock .45 as my next purchase. The range has a variety of .45s to play with and so far the Glock seems the most accurate and has only jammed once on me.

i know I need a revolver, but what caliber? I'm thinking a small .22 would be good for everyday carry. Do you have a concealed carry permit? If I get time in the near futchum, I'll take the class and if I pass the background check, i should be ready to go.

I'm glad you tested the mag instead of just sticking it in a drawrer and depending on it when the shit hits the fan like a lot of people do. Sigs are good guns, I like them, don't have any though.

I like .45's, I own a springfield mil spec 1911. I've only shot 230 grain hard ball through it and I had a few failures to feed during the first couple hundread rounds when I broke it in, I think they were mag related(aftermarket 8 rounders). But I wouldn't depend on it when my life was on the line, I just don't trust auto's that much. Did you ever notice at the beginning of the manual it tells how reliable modern autos are and then goes on how to deal with jams, failures to feed, failures to extract, etc... I just van't trust somthing like that with my life. That's why I like revolvers, pull the trigger, go bang, easy. I guess that's why some folks like glocks, pull trigger go boom. I really like the glock 36, but for a glock it doesn't have enough capacity. If I was going to get any glock I'de get a used on, I think buying a used glock is about as reliable as buying a used brick, you know what you're getting...

For home defence I keep a 12 guage, remington 870 loaded with regular 7? birdshot, I think it's more than adaquate given the close ranges that I would be shooting indoors and a smith 686 loaded with 38's for backup.

No I don't have a CCW. I'de love to get one but ohio doesn't issue them, hopefully that will be changing this year (thank you NRA!). If you want a revolver a .22 is a good one. I like the smith m617 because it's just the same size, weight, and everything as my 357 and it's a helluva fun plinker and easily takes care of annoying squirrils :-) For variety I don't think it's easy to beat the 357, heavy 200 grain corbon hunting loads to 38 special light loads. It's the versatility that's tough to beat. But if you want a revolver rent a bunch from the range and get what you like best, for concealed carry like you said I'de think 38 snubby but that's just my opinion. Tryt what you can and pick what you like best.

Take care

Yeah the sig is solid and handles nice.
I have a chance to get a Glock from a friend
with two high cap mags for about what a new Glock costs.
It's worth it with the high caps as they fetch a high price now days.

I try to get to the range once a month, sometimes more. It is the best way I've found to reduce everyday stress. Plus, it helps accuracy.

I alternate buckshot and slugs in my shotgun, just for fun.
I figure the buck may leave them living ...then the slug can take off their head.(army friend's friend's wife
shot her husband in the stomach with buckshot and he lived, minus several feet of intestine)
...and the slug will take off their head.

These days you really need a personal firearm for protection.

I like .45's, I own a springfield mil spec 1911

Wow, that's a keeper. My uncle has one. He's the family gun nut. The guy has everything I've always wanted and more, incuding a few really nice assault rifles.

Thank God I don`t live in a society where guns are so common.
Here you never even see a gun unless you are in the army or something.
Actually the first time I even held a gun in my hand was in the military.
But then again we got to play with some really BIG guns, that was fun
(in a stupid macho sort of way).

My dad is the big gun guy in my family. I've been shooting since I was probably 5 years old, started with a Ruger Bearcat .22, which I still have.

One thing that I am pretty adamant about is that *everyone* should know how to use a gun, even if they're against them. Just like everyone should know at least some rudementary hand-to-hand self-defense, and hand-to-knife, and hand-to-various other weapon. It's just something everyone should know how to do, just in case. Gotta remember the boyscout motto: Be prepared!

evolving, sure copy it. That's what I did. I copied if off of a gun forum and posted it here. I didn't see it copywrited...

feign, I agree everyone should know how to handle a gun. But I'll go further and say everyone should have one. It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need one and not have one, be prepared.

I have a problem with the idea of everyone owning a gun. (Or everyone carrying a gun.) If I carried a gun, I may have killed at least one person so far. That wouldn't be too cool. Of course this person didn't kill me, if he had I might be wishing I'd been carrying a gun.
Still, I'd rather not carry a gun, and I'd rather not live somewhere where people carried guns. Personal choice I guess.
That said, I can definately see why people would want to carry guns, or at least want the right to carry guns. I can see most sides of most arguments, it's somewhat annoying as I can never really choose a side and stick to it.

Ulysees, I wouldn't really want to carry a gun either. If we get the CCW law in Ohio I'll get one just so I can stick a .38 in my glove compartment for peace of mind. I wouldn't carry it on me for a variety of reasons. I think if everyone owned a gun in their home then burglary rates would drop like a rock and our insurance rates would go down. Of course if someone doesn't want one they don't need to have one...

Well, I can agree with that. I actually own guns, a bunch of them. I inherited maybe 9 hunting rifles when my father died in a... hunting accident. (no, he didn't get shot, it's a very very long story, and it really has nothing to do with hunting whatsoever, but that's how it's classified.)
Just for the record, my father was an avid hunter, and a great marksman, with a bow, with a rifle, with whatever. Funny thing though, he never *once* brought home a dead animal. He just used hunting as an excuse to get into the woods. Most of his friends were hunters as well, so it worked out well. (we got a lot of meat, though my father didn't kill it.)
Awhile ago I was looking through a bunch of his old magazines (the paper kind). They were almost all wildlife photography mags, very few of the hunting variety. (He hated seeing some fat redneck crouched on the ground, grinning like a fool, holding up the dead head of a deer by the antlers.)

i did'nt really read this Whole thread, but i don't like guns and i wish the ghettos would not have as many as they do. there should be some STRICT ass rules about owning gun, which i thin there is now. but it's just to easy for a kid that wants a gun to go to the ghetto market and get one. that sucks.

This has absolutely nothing to do with legally owned guns. You can buy guns in the black market of any country. Handguns are not legally available to anyone under the age of 21(well at least I think that's what the Brady bill said). Other guns can't be bought unless the person purchasing them is over 18. Having worked selling guns, I'll tell you they're not that easy to buy legally from a store.
