yep. i have 1 of those jars. after i bought my jars my mom said 'we have some of those' and gave me a few different sized ones but one exactly like that. i inocced it with treasure coast and its going to be birthed any day now. its colonized im just waiting for it to thicken in some areas. on another not how do you suppose it could not work? i mean the mycellium/mushrooms dont give a shit what shape/size/style container theyre in. basic rules of nature man. food + water + spores = living culture. the only reason we use canning jars is because you can sterilize them easily and theyre reusable. as long as you can keep it clean you can [probably shoulnt but you can] use whatever device you can think of to hold substrate while it colonizes; drinking glass, old ice cream tub, a hollowed out cantaloupe.. anything man just as long as you can sterilize it or at least keep out the bacteria that you wouldnt want- some bacteria is favorable. by the way if anyone knows how to sterilize a hollowed cantaloupe that would be interesting.
-------------------- Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go? maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it! BUCKETS BRIGADE left hand man!!!

Those long jars tend to stall a little when they get towards the bottom. put a little vermiculite in the bottom of the jar before you add the substrate material.

Longitudinally the circumference of a regular 1/ 2 pint jar is more easily penetrated by mycellium than the more compact vertically challenged short half pint...A short half pint will contain a more compact center and often take more time for full colonization....
-------------------- Going crazy will drive you mad, but once you get there the rest is easy....All spores are not created equal!!!!!!!!!!! Sporeworks, Hawkseye, PF, they are completely viable with very strong genetics.
