What was the date of that issue? I used to read that mag every month back in the eighties. But somehow they gave up on the fight and sold out. I prefer Canabus Culture and especially the POT TV online streaming video shows. Boy Canada sure is way ahead of the USA on the pot issues.

i still read the times. i like the "heads" better tho and "cannabis culture". i love our canadian attitude on marijauna, its getting better all the time to. even the cops are pretty cool most of the time and just take it and dont do anything.

Hi Jammer, the cover of that issue is actually silver. I had a hard time copying it without damging it so it came out pinkish. The issue is Autumn 1974. It was a quarterly issue for the first year and then became a monthly issue. In that first issue you notice that the girl is holding a mushroom. Well that is a grocery store mushroom and not even real. Phony articles about a lady dealer. Some ads. Nothing very great. Between 1978-1983 the mag changed and began promoting all of the phony evil Cocaine cuts. I personally manufactured Rock Crystal Incense, Bolicvian Flake. Peruvian Rock, Ultracaine, Genericaine, Manitol, supercaine and several others including Yocaine (Yohimbi Hydrochloride and corynathene. Anyway, High Times flaked and started selling all of the truck driver drugs , the phony amphetamine look-a-likes and the phony Valium, sdowner Look-a-likes, They caused the increase in the cost of Marijuana by making their Terans High Price Guide establish New York Prices for drugs at about ten dollars a gram for pot while pot sold on the west copast for ten to twenty an ounce. therebye creating a market uplift of the cost of pot. then the head shops started to carry cocaine paraphenalia as did most record stores, especially in the malls and becasue of high times and the cocaine trade, made record stores inm alls had to stop selling papers and pipes becasue of the heat from the cocaine and coke cuts, mirrors blades, all which becasme prominent in High Times for resale. I wrote an artticle in High TImes in October 1987 with 7 photos. It took Steve Hager 14 years to return my phoots to me and then he paid me for space I never used. Anyway, I very rarely look at it unless it has shrooms in the issue which today is very rare. Mj Have a good shroomy day Ps.s I'll post some shroom issues of other drug magazines of the 1970s later on. Busy shrinking my art site to about 300 smaller images and revamping the shroom World site and also rewriting the Mushroom Pioneers and the Psilocybian CUltivation History guide. Happy New Year to all here and elsewhere whose interest lies tin the power of the shrooms.

I had several long letters published in Ed Rosenthal's colume many years ago. It was a real kewel feeling to actualy be able to clue ole Ed on some shit that he didnt know about. I dont mind all of there ads for OTC drugs that actually DO SOMETHING. What pisses me off is all of the FAKE SHIT that can be used for no other purpose other than fakeing someone out for there money. Thats the stuff that sent me to Cannibus Culture. Honesty there Pot TV streaming video at there site shows stuff that nobody dares puts on the net in America. (some of Pot TV is just showing people smokeing and talking) My favorite dude over there is M.J. Man!

MJ, thanks for HT history lesson. I've always wondered what the full background of the mag was. It sounds to me that HT has actually done more harm than good for the legalization issue. If they had just stuck to the main points of the magazine, cultivation and law reform, they might have had much more success influencing law makers and public opinion. Instead, they whored themselves out to stimulant manufacturers and cocaine paraphanalia sellers, which aligned them with hard drugs, and helped to make people see pot as a gateway drug, that would automatically lead to coke and other much more addictive drugs. They shot their own cause down by being short sited and going after a quick buck, instead of staying the course and concentrating on law reform. How much do you think that magazine is worth anyway? I'd imagine quite a bit, after all, it is the Batman #14 of counterculture magazines. It is an interesting piece of history, even though the magazine that HT puts out today is a worthless, self serving piece of garbage.
