invitro pinning?!?!?
    #502374 - 12/27/01 11:40 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

this may be a really basic question. But how do u get the cakes to start pinning before u birth them?! I am trying to find out for sure if my terrarium is working. I figure if the cakes is pinning already when I put it in there and mushies don't grow, then something is wrong w. one of the atmospheric conditions. Anybody?? Thanks!!!

Expose them to light.

Expose them to light the entire time they are growing in the jar.
Then when the jar is fully colonized, turn them upside down and any excess water will run down into the vermiculite making the cakes fruit from the bottom. Or...even better is to put a little dry vermiculite in the bottom before you add your substrate in addition to the top layer. See 'double ended invitro tek' at mycotopia.com.

Drop the temperature about 10 degrees and give fresh air while exposing to light 6-10 hours a day.

shouldn't even need to drop the temp any...maybe for a day or so if you want to shock them into pinning a little earlier
