Pint jars compared to half pint
    #5022546 - 12/06/05 09:44 AM (18 years, 3 months ago)

In the past, I have always used half pint jars, but I want to go to pint sizes. How many pint jars can be innculated by 1 syringe? I am thinking 3 to 4?

Also, with pint jars, do I pretty much double up the substrate amounts used in half pint jars?

Yeah, i used about 2cc in each pint jar when doing the BR method.
That worked good for me. And if you're going to try rye, it's almost a must to have jars larger than a 1/2 pint.

On my first grow I inoculated 10 pint jars with one 10cc syringe and they colonized in 2-3 weeks. I didn't think that was too bad. Hope that helps.

Well, sure, you could use pint jars.  The only real difference (obviously) is going to be colonization time.  With a full pint jar it will take a bit longer to fully colonize your jar.

Any time you are using larger jars when growing, the main important thing you want to worry about is moisture content.  You want to get the moisture level perfect in those.  The larger the substrate/size jar you use, the bigger the chance of your sub drying out.

To answer your question, yes, you would just double the substrate that you would use in a 1/2 pint jar.

I think with pint jars, you should be able to inoculate 10 jars per one 10cc syringe; 1cc/jar.  For half pints i use btwn .5-1cc per jar.

I have used quart jars before and used 2cc's per jar on those, and have had success....although I would highly not suggest going bigger than 1 pint.  A couple of my quart jars got dried out before colonization was complete  (talking about PF substrate here, WBS, rye, etc are fine in quart jars).

GL TO YA!!
