Can i use a microwave??This is a very ridiculous question...hope you didnt plan on using medal lids..Buy a pressure cooker now or plan for repeated failure......if you're worrying about getting caught that much to the point you cant sterilize properly.........dont attempt to grow mushies/./,?.,?

I've heard stories about people using microwaves, but I doubt they really work as people make them out, most likely just a few lucky jar or some such thing. The first thing I'd say is a problem regarding microwaves is cooking time. To get properly steralized, I imagin they'd have to be in the microwave for a LONNNNNNNG time. Also consider what manna said, I imagine you'd have some problems with lids and what not. If you can't afford a P. Cooker, use the pot, it's the easiest way.

the only reason mics dont work efficiently is because all are different wattages and there can be no set length of time to cook for on all models. our old one probably would take like 5 minutes to heat up a jar whereas these new ones at work (not like id ever bring jars to work but for conparison) could fry some shit up hardcore in 5 minutes. it takes less than 2 min to do popcorn and usually like 1 minute if i heat up anything for lunch. as for a LOOOONG time i dont think they need to be in there that long at all. ive tried before and very well over cooked my jas [among other problems; i was a noobie] and i was using 5 quart jars at a time and they took like 20 or 25 minutes if i remember and after seeing what happened yeah that was pretty much way too long but i had waaaaayyy too much water in the jars. id imagine if you followed pf and overcooked it with the dry heat it would easily dry out your jars ut if you didnt get it enough than it would not kill contamination obviously. so with boiling or PC leave them in for 2 hours and the steam will keep everything moist. microwave for 2 hours and you might be lucky to scrape the black shit from your jars. i was thinking maybe a glass of water in there also too keep shit humid but with the whole nature of a microwave i think it would be hard to regulate the amt of moisture loss when cooking. and if you mic with no lids and alcohol sterilize the lids just before you cap them up while theyre still steaming hot and inside the hot microwave then it will be steril; i know they were steril enough i just had almost a half inch of water that collected at the bottoms of my jars. just wait till your parents leave for dinner or go somewhere. it only takes 1.5 to 2 hours to set up a pan; boil for an hour (and 15 min if you can spare it) and bring them in your room to let them cool. EDIT oh yeah make sure you boil in a covered pot. it retains the heat much better and steams the areas not covered with water very well. also reduces evaporation so you dont have to risk adding more water to the setup and cracking the jars with the colder water.
-------------------- Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go? maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it! BUCKETS BRIGADE left hand man!!!
