is 100 too hot?

My adopted grandfather is using an electric blanket to keep his straw and casings warm. It got out of hand a little and got to 100 degrees. Will that kill the myc? Thanks in advance.

That is hot. Try keeping them 75+ but less than 86 degrees. If you figure the jars are warmer inside the jar than your thermometer reads then I would keep them at 80-82. I keep mine at room temp around 78 and they do fine.If you get them too hot the mycelium will die. The heat will also encourage contaminants.

I had 10 jars that I roasted over three weeks ago. Then I got off my but and built a proper(?) incubator and in the past week I've had some growth in 3 of them, still no contams so I'm not gonna throw the others out yet!!!

It's not jars I am talking about it's casings and straw tek.

but seriously what you should do (an idea I have been thinking of) is hook a thermostat into your terreriums and hook the heater blanket up to those, or use one of those reptile heaters thermostat thingys.

LOL. Sorry about that. Must be the smoke.You clearly state it's straw. Thermal death happens at 106. So, the mycelium will die at temps of 106 or higher. The casings themselves are warmer than the air around them.So, let's hope you are lucky.They could be ok.

I'm not an expert, but I did read somewhere that the max temperature shrooms will grow in is 106 degrees. I'm not sure if that means just fruiting or mycelial growth...
