These songs are why-

Marooned
Coming Back to Life
Keep Talking
High Hopes

What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?

Dude, Murex, the instrumental on that cd's alright, because it is Pink Floyd's usual musicians,(besides when with Syd Barrett) but without Roger Water's vocals and amazing song writting, they are nothing.

I think bands/albums that have changed music, are:

1. Dark Side of the Moon- Floyd

2. Surrealistic Pillow- Jefferson Airplane

3. Animals- Pink floyd

4. Piper at the Gates of Dawn(started pyschdelic music of the 60's, forward)- floyd

5. DEFINTELLY "THE WALL"- floyd

6. Hell, I just love this band and album, so fuck you, Nightfall in Middle Earth- Blind Guardian

7. Painkiller- Judas Priest

8.

I'm not sure if I'd point to a single album of theirs, but the Melvins had a huge influence on music, despite never achieving mainstream success themselves.

Every punk band I ever heard cited the Velvet Underground as a huge influence. Iggy and the Stooges? You bet. These are the two bands outside of 50s blues guys who were most influential. Floyd and the Dead really didn't have influence outside of their own small (though great) universes. Dylan? Feh.

this thread really should be called;

"Albums that changed the face of the music industry"

music is always the same, its the industry and commercial part that change.

Are you aware of any music that was produced in the 70's? Are you aware of a little thing called krautrock, and a little thing called all of new wave music, or basically all electronica of any kind. What do you think faust or kraftwerk or amon duul were? Take pink floyd, mix it with some zappa, and youve basically got it. How do you think david bowie and brian eno, stayed 'current'? Its absurd to imply that Pink Floyd werent influential, they were easilly one of the most influential bands of the 60's. I really have no idea what you mean.

I never considered Floyd to be electronica nor did I think that Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream or Vangelis were remotely similar. I clearly love Zappa as well but I just don't see the connection. Eno? Great stuff but I don't know who listened outside of the whole very short lived glam rock scene. He and Fripp were far more kindred spirits than Floyd. Eno was in Roxy Music fer fuck sake, maybe the anti-Floyd of all time. Bowie? Yeah, OK, maybe I'll grant a whiff of Floyd in Heroes and Low, but that's it.

I just see Floyd and the Dead as spawning imitators as opposed to innovators. The punks took off from the Velvets and Iggy and MC5. New wave was essentially palatable punk for the masses, not that there was anything wrong with that.
