think about this.....getting enough substrate for a 1/2 pint jar, and putting it in a 1 pint jar, with tape over the hole. That way you dont have to let that much air transfer into the jar, and theres less chance of contamination. Woulnt there be enough air space for the mycelium to grow?

does the needle have to touch the substrate for innoculation? I try not to touch the substrate, and it seems to work better.

Wouldnt the top layer of verm just absorb the water and the spores with it then?

what the fuck are you all talking about ?! if you don't fill the jar nearly to the top then you shouldn't use a verm seal. No, the needle doesn't have to touch the substrate. And if you don't have a verm seal I would recommend using lids without holes. larry

When my fraind inculates grain he pushes the needle to the side of the jar, that way the liquid runs down the sides and right to the bottom,same affect really,as for the verm maybey a ramsy seal would be better ???

i think i can help. last week when i was out at a pub w/ a coupld buddies i orderd a pint then i went to the bathroom.. when i came back only half of it was there. i think one of my friends drank it or the bartender didnt fill it up all the way. i didnt really like that too much so i never went back to the bar w/ those guys again. hope everything works out good.
