What's your set-up? I think, if I remember correctly, you have a one liter jug? If so, you need more surface area. I think you had your cake sitting ontop of the perlite? Refresh my memory if you could.

What are your temperatures? You should be getting more humidity than that. Also do you have an air stone in the water or is it just the hose that emptys into the water?

get a bubble wand and attatch that to your pump and submerse that in the perlit, like the pmp tek.
don't go by your cheapo hygrometer, its probably really lame and is false. fan and mist 3 times a day if you can and you'll be fine.

you'll be fine just fanning and misting. but try not to let it go less tha 3 times a day, and maybe no more than 5 times.

Just pour in some water untill you have about 1/2 inch from the top of the perlite, and you should be ok. Add some H2O2 and your money!!

The concept behind perlite humidification is that perlite is a small porous rock with lots of surface area. Therefor it easily evaporates the water. The perlite that is COVERED or SUBMERGED in water will do nothing. Your better with the BOTTOM 1/2 covered in water and the rest of the perlite just WET.

bubbler system...
Go to a pet store and look in the aquarium supply isles.
Aquarium air pump. air hose for it. air stone.
then get a small glass or container...from where ever.
---
You can take the bottom off the air pump and attach a filter, like so...
or you can put the air pump in a container... and poke some holes in it and stuff it with polyfil. and cut out a small hole for the air line out. then you have filtered air.
or you can put the air pump in a container... cut a hole out of the container and cover the hole with a filter disc. and cut out a small hole for the air line out.
or you can buy an inline filter for the air hose...if you can find one.
--- hook the air line to the aquarium pump. then run your air line into your fruiting chamber. hook the air stone up to air line...the end inside. stick the airstone into a glass of water/hydrogen peroxide mix.
turn that puppy on!~
and the results....
and the results with cakes...

OK....well if your perlite was just soaked and it wasn't too dry that should work fine.... Unless your FC has a really bad seal. Or watch out for things like if its close to a furnace vent. Dry heat from a furnace will make it really hard to get the humidity up.
I just like to leave that bit of water under my perlite as a reservoir. Your FC is pretty big. You probably need at least 2+ inches of perlite.

How often are you opening the lid? Maybe the humidity just isn't getting a chance to build up.
