Blocking Gmail Ads
    #4998739 - 11/30/05 02:43 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

I always see these text ads in this same location in gmail, and I was curious to see if anyone has successfully blocked them.  They really aren't annoying to me, but It actually would make me that much more comfortable to say I'm 100% ad free

I'm using firefox 1.5 with adblock.  Any suggestions on how to get rid of these ads?

You can't block them. What do you think is paying for your gmail to operate...I don't begrudge them a few unobtrusive ads.

You can block them easily. What you need is to download the Firefox extension "Customize Google". It is useful is many different ways. It removes ads and lets you customize your Google use in a lot of different ways. Check it out.

Wait a second....I just looked at the photo. Those are spam...not normal web ads. Gmail handles that just fine if you set the filter..

The little ads above my inbox are spam?

I've used Gmail for a long time now and i've never seen ads anywhere on the site. You can try using the Adblock Firefox extension. I used it to block all those Google text ads.

if you are using Gmail for your email they now have pop3.smtp servers up for use of getting emails sent to your inbox via Thunderbird, or Outlook express. This gets rid of those annoying popups and is organized in a clean way. BTW i wouldnt suggest using IE (internet explorer) switch to Firefox and Thunderbird(email.rss.newsgroups).

http://firefox.com
http://thunderbird.com

Gmails POP Server : pop.gmail.com
Gmails SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com

BuH!

P.S. If you are clueless on the matter visit. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13285&topic=1556

Yes, I do use firefox and adblock with filterset.g updater and all that jazz ...

I really enjoy the look and feel, so to speak, of checking/managing my gmail from a web browser. I'll guess I'll give thunderbird another try and see if I like it any better.
